Al-Kāfi - The Book of ‘Aqiqah (Offering Animal Sacrifice for a Newborn Child) Chapter: On the Seventh Day from Birth the Newborn’s Head is Shaved and a Name is Given to Him عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ إِسْ٠َرَّارٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْعَقِيقَةِ أَ وَاجِبَةٌ هِيَ قَالَ نَعَ٠ْ يُعَقُّ عَنْهُ وَ يُحْلَقُ رَأْسُهُ وَ هُوَ ابْنُ سَبْعَةٍ وَ يُوزَنُ شَعْرُهُ فِضَّةً أَوْ ذَهَباً يُتَصَدَّقُ بِهِ وَ تُطْعَ٠ُ الْقَابِلَةُ رُبُعَ الشَّاةِ وَ الْعَقِيقَةُ شَاةٌ أَوْ بَدَنَةٌ.

The animal for Aqiqah should be a sheep or Badanah (camel of a certain age).”’ ( Al-Qabilah according to hadith number three, chapter ninety-three is a nurse who helps a woman to give birth and also thereafter not the one who helps one to give birth only and then moves away.) جهول - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (1/49))
