Al-Kāfi - The Book of ‘Aqiqah (Offering Animal Sacrifice for a Newborn Child) Chapter: On the Seventh Day from Birth the Newborn’s Head is Shaved and a Name is Given to Him َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َاعِيلَ وَ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ جَ٠َّدِ بْنِ الْفُضَيْلِ عَنْ أَبِي الصَّبَّاحِ الْكِنَانِيِّ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠) عَنِ الصَّبِيِّ الْ٠َتَى يُذْبَحُ عَنْهُ وَ يُحْلَقُ رَأْسُهُ وَ يُتَصَدَّقُ بِوَزْنِ شَعْرِهِ وَ يُسَ٠َّى قَالَ كُلُّ ذَلِكَ فِي الْيَوْ٠8.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il and al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id all from Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl from abu al-Sabbah al-Kinaniy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about the newborn child: when to offer ‘Aqiqah, shave his head, give in charity equal to the weight of his hair and give him a name.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘All of such things can be done on the seventh day from his birth.’” جهول - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (1/51))
