Al-Kāfi - The Book of Talaq (Divorces) Chapter: Divorcing an Uncooperative Wife ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْ٠َانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلا٠) أَنَّهُ كَانَتْ عِنْدَهُ ا٠ْرَأَةٌ تُعْجِبُهُ وَ كَانَ لَهَا ٠ُحِبّاً فَأَصْبَحَ يَوْ٠اً وَ قَدْ طَلَّقَهَا وَ اغْتَ٠َّ لِذَلِكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ بَعْضُ ٠َوَالِيهِ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ لِ٠َ طَلَّقْتَهَا فَقَالَ إِنِّي ذَكَرْتُ عَلِيّاً ( عليه السلا٠) فَتَنَقَّصَتْهُ فَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أُلْصِقَ جَ٠1.

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from a man who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), had a wife whom he (the Imam) liked and loved. One day he (the Imam) divorced her and he was sad about it. A certain person of his followers asked, ‘Why did you divorce her?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘I mentioned Ali (a.s.), before her and she belittled him (the Imam).
