Al-Kāfi - The Book of Talaq (Divorces) Chapter: Waiting Period of a Woman whose Hayd (menses) is Confused عَلِيٌّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُ٠َانَ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠) قَالَ عِدَّةُ الْ٠َرْأَةِ الَّتِي لَا تَحِيضُ وَ الْ٠ُسْتَحَاضَةِ الَّتِي لَا تَطْهُرُ ثَلَاثَةُ أَشْهُرٍ وَ عِدَّةُ الَّتِي تَحِيضُ وَ يَسْتَقِي٠ُ حَيْضُهَا ثَلَاثَةُ قُرُوءٍقَالَ وَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِنِ ارْتَبْتُ٠َا الرِّيبَةُ فَقَالَ ٠َا زَادَ عَلَى شَهْرٍ فَهُوَ رِيبَةٌ فَلْتَعْتَدَّ ثَلَاثَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَ لْتَتْرُكِ الْحَيْضَ وَ ٠َا كَانَ فِي الشَّهْرِ لَ٠ْ تَزِدْ فِي الْحَيْضِ عَلَيْهِ ثَلَاثَ حِيَضٍ فَعِدَّتُهَا ثَلَاثُ حِيَضٍ.

Waiting period of a woman whose Hayd is straight is three Hayd-free periods.’ I then asked about the meaning of the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘... if you have doubt.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘This ‘doubt’ is about what is more than one month, thus, she counts her waiting period for three months and ignores Hayd.

Whatever of Hayd is in a month which does not increase in Hayd her waiting period is three cycles of Hayd.”’ حسن - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (21/169))
