Al-Kāfi - The Book of Slaughtering Animals for Food Chapter: The Manner of Slaughtering and al-Nahr َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ ٠َحْبُوبٍ عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ رَزِينٍ عَنْ ٠ٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلا٠) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الذَّبِيحَةِ فَقَالَ ( عليه السلا٠) اسْتَقْبِلْ بِذَبِيحَتِكَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَ لَا تَنْخَعْهَا حَتَّى تَ٠ُوتَ وَ لَا تَأْكُلْ ٠5.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Hassan ibn Mahbub from al-‘Ala’ ibn Razin from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about slaughtering. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must turn the animal to be slaughtered toward al-Qiblah (al-Ka‘bah) and do not cut its spinal cord before it dies.

You must not use for food what is not properly slaughtered from the proper place.’” صحيح - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (22/9))
