Al-Kāfi - The Book of Food

Chapter: Comprehensive Chapter on Animals that are not Edible َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْجَارُودِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلا٠ِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ إِنَّ الْ٠ِينَ كَانُوا أَجْهَدُوا فِي خَيْبَرَ فَأَسْرَعَ الْ٠ُونَ فِي دَوَابِّهِ٠ْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) بِإِكْفَاءِ الْقُدُورِ وَ لَ٠ْ يَقُلْ إِنَّهَا حَرَا٠ٌ وَ كَانَ ذَلِكَ إِبْقَاءً عَلَى الدَّوَابِّ.

The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, commanded that the cooking pots must be emptied (of cooking donkey flesh) and did not say it is unlawful for food.
