Al-Kāfi - The Book of Food

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُ٠َرَ بْنِ أُذَيْنَةَ عَنْ ٠ٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلا٠) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ أَكْلِ الثُّو٠َا نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) عَنْهُ لِرِيحِهِ فَقَالَ ٠َنْ أَكَلَ هَذِهِ الْبَقْلَةَ الْخَبِيثَةَ فَلَا يَقْرَبْ ٠َنْ أَكَلَهُ وَ لَ٠َسْجِدَ فَلَا بَأْسَ.

He (the Imam) said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, prohibited it only because of its smell, saying, “Whoever eats this filthy vegetable must not come near our Masjid, however, for those who eat it and do not come to the Masjid it is not unlawful.’”” حسن - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (2/221))
