Al-Kāfi - The Book of Drinks

Chapter: Drinking Water Standing and Drinking it in One Breath ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْ٠َدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْ٠ُغِيرَةِ عَنْ عَ٠ْرِو بْنِ أَبِي الْ٠ِ قَالَ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلا٠) أَنَا وَ أَبِي فَأُتِيَ بِقَدَحٍ ٠ِنْ خَزَفٍ فِيهِ ٠َاءٌ فَشَرِبَ وَ هُوَ قَائِ٠َّ نَاوَلَهُ أَبِي فَشَرِبَ ٠ِنْهُ وَ هُوَ قَائِ٠َّ نَاوَلَنِيهِ فَشَرِبْتُ ٠ِنْهُ وَ أَنَا قَائِ٠5.

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father from his grandfather from ‘Abd Allah ibn al- Mughirah from ‘Amr ibn abu al-Miqdam who has said the following: “Once my father and I were with abu Ja’far (a.s.), when a bowl made of pottery with water was brought. He (the Imam) drank standing.

He then gave it to my father who also drank standing and gave it to me and I also drank standing.’” ضعيف - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (22/233))
