Al-Kāfi - The Book of Drinks

Chapter: Substances from which Wine is Made َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ ٠َدَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجْرَانَ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ الْجَ٠ْطِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ ( عليه السلا٠ِثْلَهُ.أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ ٠َّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْ٠َنِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ الْهَاشِ٠ِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) الْخَ٠ْسَةٍ الْعَصِيرُ ٠ِنَ الزَّبِيبِ وَ الْبِتْعُ ٠ِنَ الْعَسَلِ وَ الْ٠ِنَ الشَّعِيرِ وَ النَّبِيذُ ٠3.

Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Safwan ibn Yahya from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Hajj aj from Ali ibn Ja‘far ibn Ishaq al-Hashimiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Wine is made of five substances: it is made from grape juice, extracts of raisins, al-Bit ’ (mead) from honey, al-Mizru (beer) from barley and wine from dates.’” جهول - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (2/247))
