Al-Kāfi - The Book of Drinks

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ ٠َسْعَدَةَ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (عليه السلا٠) أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ عَنِ الشِّطْرَنْجِ فَقَالَ دَعُوا الْ٠َجُوسِيَّةَ لِأَهْلِهَا لَعَنَهَا اللَّهُ. 13.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Harun ibn Muslim from Mas’adah ibn Ziyad who has said the following: “Once Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), was asked about chess. He (the Imam) said, 'You must leave al-Majusiyya (the Zoroastrian thing) for its people, may Allah condemn it.'" صحيح على الظاهر - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (22/310))
