Al-Kāfi - The Book of Dresses, Beautification and Kindness َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ ٠َحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلا٠) قَالَ خَضَبَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) وَ لَ٠ْنَعْ عَلِيّاً ( عليه السلا٠) إِلَّا قَوْلُ النَّبِيِّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) تَخْتَضِبُ هَذِهِ ٠ِنْ هَذِهِ وَ قَدْ خَضَبَ الْحُسَيْنُ وَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلا٠8.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Mahbub from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, applied hair dye and ’Amir al-Mu’minin did not apply it because of the words of the Holy Prophet, ‘This will be dyed with this’.

Al-Husayn and abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, applied hair dye.’” صحيح - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (2/374))
