A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from âUthman ibn âIsa from Samaâah ibn Mehran who has narrated the following: âI once asked abu â Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who has taken an oath. He takes an oath to walk to al-Kaâbah or to pay charity or free a slave, vow, or to offer an offering animal if he speaks to his father or mother or his brother or a relative.
Alternatively, he takes an oath to cut off relation with relatives or for an unlawful reason or something, which is not proper for him to do. He (the Imam) said, âThe Book of Allah is before taking an oath and there is no swearing in unlawful matters.ââ ÙØ«Ù - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (MirʾÄt al-Ê¿UqÅ«l fÄ« Sharḥ AkhbÄr Äl al-RasÅ«l (4/317))
