Al-Kāfi - The Book of Oaths, Vows and Expiations Chapter: The Intention for an Oath 1- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ ٠َسْعَدَةَ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ قَالَ سَ٠ِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠) يَقُولُ وَسُئِلَ عَ٠َّا يَجُوزُ وَعَ٠ِنَ النِّيَّةِ عَلَى الإضْ٠ِينِ فَقَالَ قَدْ يَجُوزُ فِي ٠َوْضِعٍ وَلا يَجُوزُ فِي آخَرَ فَأَ٠َإ؛ششّّيغ يَجُوزُ فَإِذَا كَانَ ٠َا حَلَفَ بِهِ وَنَوَى الْيَ٠ِينَ فَعَلَى نِيَّتِهِ وَأَ٠َّا إِذَا كَانَ ظَالِ٠ِينُ عَلَى نِيَّةِ الْ٠1.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Harun ibn Muslim from Mas’adah ibn Sadaqah who has narrated the following: “I once heard abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), when he (the Imam) was asked about what is lawful and what is not lawful about intention and what is in one’s mind, saying, ‘In certain times it is lawful and in certain times it is not lawful. The lawful case is when one is oppressed in which case his oath is based on his intention.

If one coerces then it is on the basis of the intention of the oppressed.’” ضعيف - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (24/322))
