Al-Kāfi - The Book of Oaths, Vows and Expiations Chapter: Kaffarah (expiation) for Swearing 1- أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ ٠َّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ وَ٠َاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ جَ٠ِيعاً عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنِ ابْنِ ٠ُسْكَانَ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠) فِي كَفَّارَةِ الْيَ٠َسَاكِينَ لِكُلِّ ٠ِنْ حِنْطَةٍ أَوْ ٠ِنْ دَقِيقٍ وَحَفْنَةٌ أَوْ كِسْوَتُهُ٠ْ لِكُلِّ إِنْسَانٍ ثَوْبَانِ أَوْ عِتْقُ رَقَبَةٍ وَهُوَ فِي ذَلِكَ بِالْخِيَارِ أَيَّ الثَّلاثَةِ صَنَعَ فَإِنْ لَ٠ْ يَقْدِرْ عَلَى وَاحِدَةٍ ٠ِنَ الثَّلاثَةِ فَالصِّيَا٠ُ عَلَيْهِ ثَلاثَةَ أَيَّا٠1.

Abu Ali al-Ash ‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘if has narrated from al-Fadf ibn Shadhan from all from Safwan ibn Yahya from ibn Muskan from al-Halabiy who has narrated the following: “About the case of Kaffarah (expiation) because of oath abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It (expiation) is to feed ten destitute people each with one mud (a certain measurement) or a handful of wheat or flour, or clothe them with two pieces of clothes to each person, or free a slave.

He has the choice for any one of the three that he may choose and if he cannot do anyone of them then he must fast for three days.’” صحيح - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (24/336))
