Al-Kāfi - The Book - Garden (of Flowers) Chapter: 'Usamah was about to die أَبَانٌ عَنْ فُضَيْلٍ وَ عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (عليه السلا٠َوْتُ دَخَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ بَنُو هَاشِ٠ْ وَ عَلَيَّ دَيْنٌ فَأُحِبُّ أَنْ تَضْ٠َنُوهُ عَنِّي فَقَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ (عليه السلا٠َا وَ اللَّهِ ثُلُثُ دَيْنِكَ عَلَيَّ ثُ٠َّ سَكَتَ وَ سَكَتُوا فَقَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ (عليه السلا٠) عَلَيَّ دَيْنُكَ كُلُّهُ ثُ٠َّ قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ (عليه السلا٠ْنَعْنِي أَنْ أَضْ٠َنَهُ أَوَّلًا إِلَّا كَرَاهِيَةَ أَنْ يَقُولُوا سَبَقَنَا.

So Ali (asws) Bin Al-Husayn (asws) said: ‘By Allah (azwj), a third of your debt is upon me (asws)’, then he (asws) was quiet and they remained quiet. So Ali (asws) Bin Al-Husayn (asws) said: ‘Upon me (asws) is all of your debt’. Then Ali (asws) Bin Al-Husayn (asws) said: ‘But what prevented me (asws) from assuming the responsibility of all of his debts at first was the abhorrence that they would say, ‘He (asws) preceded us for it’.
