ʿUyūn akhbār al-Riḍā - Content Chapter: Traditions about Ar-Ridha (a.s.) 154 - وَبِهذَا الإِسنادِ عَنِ الحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِىٍ‏عَلَيْهِ٠ُ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ ال٠ُستَراحَ، فَوَجَدَ لُق٠ُلقاةً، فَدَفَعَها إِلى غُلا٠ٍ لَهُ فَقالَ: يا غُلا٠ُ اذكُرنِي بِهذِهِ اللُّق٠َةِ إِذا خَرَجْتُ، فَأَكَلَها الغُلا٠َّا خَرَجَ الحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِىٍ‏عَلَيْهِ٠َةُ؟ قالَ: أَكَلتُها يا ٠َوْلايَ، قالَ: أَنْتَ حُرٌّ لِوَجهِ اللَّهِ تَعالى‏، قالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ: أَعتَقتَهُ يا سَيِّدي؟ قالَ: نَعَ٠ِعْتُ جَدِّي رَسُولَ اللَّهِ‏ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ يَقُولُ: ٠ِنْها أَوْ غَسَلَ ٠ْ تَستَقِرَّ فِي جَوفِهِ إِلّا أَعتَقَهُ اللَّهُ ٠ِنَ النَّارِ [وَلَ٠ْ أَكُن أَستَعبِدُ رَجُلاً أَعتَقَهُ اللَّهُ تَعالى‏ ٠31-154 According to the same documentation, on the authority of Al-Husayn ibn Ali (a.s.) it has been narrated that he entered the toilet and found a bite of food left there.

He (a.s.) gave it to his slave and asked him to remind him about it when he leaves. The slave ate that bite of food. When Al-Husayn (a.s.) came out of the W.C. he asked the slave about it. The slave said, “O my Master! I ate it.” The Imam (a.s.) said, “You are free for the sake of God.” They asked him, “O my Master! Did you set him free?” Al-Husayn (a.s.) replied, “Yes.

I heard my grandfather - God’s Prophet (S) say, ‘Whenever someone finds a bite of food that is thrown away and cleans it, washes it or eats it, God will free him from the Fire before the bite has gone down his throat.’ (Al-Husayn (a.s.) added, ‘I do not like to keep in slavery one whom God has set free.’”
