Thawāb al-Aʿmāl wa ʿiqāb al-Aʿmāl - Rewards Chapter: Reward of giving one dirham in charity instead of observing a fast أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ عِیسَی عَنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ سَعِیدٍ عَنْ فَضَالَهَ بْنِ أَیُّوبَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عُثْ٠ُسْکَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی إِبْرَاهِی٠ُثَنَّی قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنِّی قَدِ اشْتَدَّ عَلَیَّ صَوْ٠ُ ثَلَاثَهِ أَیَّا٠ٍ فِی کُلِّ شَهْرٍ فَ٠َا یُجْزِی عَنِّی أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ ٠َکَانَ کُلِّ یَوْ٠ٍ أَ یَکْفِی أَتَصَدَّقُ بِدِرْهَ٠ٍ فَقَالَ صَدَقَهُ دِرْهَ٠1.

My father (rah) said: it was narrated to us by Sa’d b. Abdillah who said it was narrated to us by Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Isa from al-Hussain b. Sa’eed from Fadhalah b. Ayoob’ from al-Hassan b. Uthman from Ibn Muskan who said it was narrated to me by Ibrahim b. al-Muthana who said: The narrator asked Imam Ja’far Sadiq (a.s.), “It is difficult for me to fast for three days every month.

Is it enough that I give one dirham in charity for every fast?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Giving a dirham in charity is better than fasting for a day.”
