It is recommended that on the first night of burial, the two rakʿah prayer known as ‘ṣalāt al‑waḥshah’ be performed for the deceased. The method of performing this prayer is as follows: in the first rakʿah after reciting Sūrat al-Ḥamd, Āyat al-Kursī[1] is recited once; and in the second rakʿah after reciting Sūrat al-Ḥamd, Sūrat al-Qadr is recited ten times; and after the salām of the prayer [i.e.
after completing the prayer], the following is said: اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَیٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، وَٱبْعَثْ ثَوَابَهَا إِلَىٰ قَبْرِ ___ allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad, wab ʿath thawābahā ilā qabri ___ O Allah! Bless Muḥammad and the progeny of Muḥammad, and send the reward of this [prayer] to the grave of ___. In the blank space, one should say the name of the deceased person.
