Ali -asws said to him: ‘Upon a condition, O Jewish brother’.

Ali -asws said to him: ‘Upon a condition, O Jewish brother’. He said, ‘And what is the condition?’ He -asws said: ‘You will be saying along with me -asws , a just, sincere word, ‘There is no god except Allah -azwj , Muhammad -saww is a Rasool -saww of Allah -azwj ’’. He said, ‘Yes, of my master, (how can I not say so)’. فقال (عليه السلام): يا أخا اليهود أما قولك: ما ليس لله فليس لله صاحبة ولاولد. قال: صدقت يا مولاي. وأما قولك: ما ليس عند الله فليس عند الله الظلم. قال: صدقت يا مولاي.

وأما قولك: ما ليس يعلمه الله فإن الله لا يعلم أن له شريكا ولا وزيرا وهو على كل شئ قدير. He -asws said: ‘O Jew brother! As for your words, ‘What isn’t for Allah -azwj ’ (it is) a female companion nor a son’. He said, ‘You -asws speak the truth my master’. (He -asws said): ‘And as for your words, ‘What isn’t with Allah -azwj ’, so there isn’t any injustice with Allah -azwj ’. He said, ‘You -asws speak the truth, O my master’.

(He -asws said): ‘And as for your words, ‘What Allah -azwj does not know’, so Allah -azwj does not Know that there is any associate for Him -azwj , nor any Vizier, and He -azwj is Able upon all things’. فعند ذلك قال: مد يدك فأنا أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، وأن محمدا (صلى الله عليه وآله) رسول الله، وأنك خليفته حقا ووصيه ووارث علمه، فجزاك الله عن الاسلام خيرا.

During that, he said, ‘Extend your -asws hand, for I testify that there is no god except Allah -azwj , and that Muhammad -saww is a Rasool -saww of Allah -azwj , and you -asws are his -saww Caliph truly and his -saww successor, and inheritor of his -saww knowledge. May Allah -azwj Recompense you -asws goodly on behalf of Islam’. قال: فضج الناس عند ذلك. فقال أبو بكر: يا كاشف الكربات يا علي أنت فارج الهم.

He (the narrator) said, ‘The people clamoured at that, so Abu Bakr said, ‘O remover of the anguish, O Ali -asws , you -asws are the reliever of the worries’. قال: فعند ذلك خرج أبو بكر ورقى المنبر وقال: أقيلوني أقيلوني أقيلوني، لست بخير كم وعلي فيكم. قال: فخرج إليه عمر وقال: أمسك يا أبا بكر عن هذا الكلام فقد ارتضيناك لا نفسنا، ثم أنزله عن المنبر فاخبر بذلك أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام) He (the narrator) said, ‘During that, Abu Bakr went out and ascended the Pulpit and said, ‘They fired me!

They fired me! You (Muslims) aren’t with goodness while Ali -asws is among you all’. Umar came to him and said, ‘Withhold, O Abu Bakr, from this speech, for we are pleased with you for ourselves’. Then he descended him from the Pulpit, and Amir Al-Momineen -asws came to know that’’.
