\n Abdullah Ja\u2019far Humeyri has narrated from Husayn Bin Alwaan who heard from the Holy imam Ja\u2019far Al Sadiq -asws who from his father the Holy Imam Muhammad Al Baqir -asws who said: \u2018The Holy Imam Ali -asws used to say, \u201cWhen a person gives something in charity and it is returned back to him then the consumption of it is not lawful unto him. The only lawful thing for him to do is to spend it in the way of Allah -azwj .

This is the same as if someone were to free two slaves and they are returned back to him, they will no longer be slaves, but will be free men. In this way whatever is given in charity cannot be taken back\u2019.
