[13] The meanings of the word ‘Sarur’ on the Eid-day; The typical Eid celebration rituals for the Eid-goers are them in the best of their outfits, observing the Eid day with a congregational Eid Salat, exchanging gifts (Eidie) and exhibiting the signs of joy and happiness in every respect from greetings (jokes, smiles, laughter) to the consumption of specially prepared festive foods and drinks.
The justification that the Eid celebrators usually come up with for the happy Eid rituals is that it is a day of ‘ سُرُوراً ’’ ‘Sarur’. And they usually quote a Verse from a supplication of Imam Zain-ul-Abadeen -asws (no. 52) containing the word ‘ سُرُوراً ’ (joy), from Sahifa-e-Sajjadia Supplication no. 45 ‘His Supplications in Bidding Farewell to the Month of Ramazan’ Verse no. 52 (Supplication no. 45 Verse no. 52).
We repent to You -azwj in our day of fast-breaking, which You -azwj have Appointed for the faithful a festival and a joy and for the people of Your creed a tie of assembly and gathering, from every misdeed we did, ill work we sent forward or evil thought we secretly conceived, the repentance of one who does not harbour a return to sin and who afterwards will not go back to offense, an unswerving repentance rid of doubt and wavering So accept it from us, be Pleased with us, and fix us within it!
