[1] The name of 2 nd Sura Al-Baqarah,\u201d (The Cow) is given after the story of the cow mentioned in verses 2:67\u201373. \n Tafseer of Abu Muhammad Al-Hassan Al-Askari -asws (11 th Imam): \u2018When the Jews debated Ali -asws regarding the Prophet-hood, he -asws called out at the camels of the Jews: \u2018O you camels! Testify for Muhammad -saww and his -saww successor -asws!\u2019 Their camels and their clothes, all of them spoke, \u2018You -asws speak the truth, O Ali -asws! Muhammad -saww is a Rasool -saww of Allah -azwj and you -asws, O Ali -asws, are truly his -saww successor -asws!\u2019 \n Some of them believed and the others separated, so it was Revealed: Alif Lam Meem [2:1] That is the Book. There is no doubt in it is Guidance for the pious [2:2] \u2013 the Book is (a reference to) Amir Al-Momineen -asws, and the pious (is a reference to) his -asws Shias\u2019\u2019. [2] \n Alif Lam Meem [2:1] That is the Book. There is no doubt in it (and it) is Guidance for the pious [2:2] – The Imam (Hassan Al-Askari -asws ) said: \u2018The Quraysh and the Jews belied the Quran and they said, \u2018It is clear magic you -saww are saying it\u2019. So Allah -azwj Mighty and Majestic Said: Alif Lam Meem [2:1] That is the Book. [2:2] \u2013 i.e., O Muhammad -saww! This Book which is Revealed unto you -saww, it is of the abbreviated letters, from which are: – Alif, Lam, Meem, and it is in your language and letters of your Alphabet, so come with the like of it if you are truthful, and seek assistance upon that with the rest of your witnesses. \n Then He -azwj Clarified that they would not be able upon it, by His -azwj Words Say: If the humans and jinn should combine together to bring the like of this Quran, they would not (be able to) bring the like of it, even though they were aiders of each other [17:88] \n Then the Exalted Said: Alif Lam Meem \u201c [2:1] \u2013 He -asws (Ali -asws ) is the Quran which begins with Alif Lam Meem [2:1] \u2013 He -asws (Ali -asws ) is that Book which Musa -as was informed with, and the ones after him -as from the Prophets -as, and they -as informed the Children of Israel that I -azwj would be Revealing unto you -saww \u2013 O Muhammad -saww \u2013 an Arabic Book \u2018 Falsehood has not come to it from before it nor (would it come) from after it; (it is) a Revelation from the Wise, the Praised One \u201d [41:42]. \n There is no doubt therein [2:2] \u2013 There is no doubt in it that it would be appearing in your presence just as their Prophets -as had informed them: \u2018Muhammad -saww, such a Book would be Revealed unto him -saww that the falsehood would not (be able to) obliterate it. He -saww and his -saww community would be reciting it upon all their situations. [3] \n Tafseer Al-Imam (Hassan Al-Askari -asws ), may the greetings be upon him -asws \u2013 Words of Mighty and Majestic: The Imam -asws said: \u2018Then He -azwj Describe these pious ones, those that the Book is Guiding towards them -asws, so He -azwj Said: Those who are believing in the unseen [2:3] \u2013 meaning (believing) in what is unseen by their sensory perception, from the matters which having the Eman in these is necessitated for them, like the Resurrection, and the Reckoning, and the Paradise, and the Fire, and the Tawheed of Allah -azwj the Exalted, and the rest of what cannot be recognised by the witnessing. \n And rather, these can be recognised by the proofs which Allah -azwj Mighty and Majestic has Appointed them these (matters), like Adam -as, and Hawwa -as, and Idrees -as, and Noah -as, and Ibrahim -as, and the Prophets -as having the Eman is necessitated in them -as and in the Divine Authorities of Allah -azwj the Exalted \u2013 and even if these have not been witnessed, and they are believing in the unseen, and they, from the Hour, are in awe [21:49] \u2019\u2019. [4] \n Imam Hassan Al-Askari -asws says: \u2018The one who rejects the preference of Amir Al-Momineen -asws over the entirety of the ones after the Prophet -saww, so he has belied the Torah, and the Evangel, and the Psalms, and the Parchments of Ibrahim -as and the rest of the Revealed Books of Allah -azwj, for it is so that nothing from these is Revealed except the most important of what is therein \u2013 after the Command with the Tawheed of Allah -azwj the Exalted and the acknowledgment with the Prophet-hood, is the acknowledgment with the Wilayah of Ali -asws and the goodly ones from his -asws Progeny -asws \u2019. \n And a man had said to Ali -asws Bin Al-Husayn -asws, \u2018What are you -asws saying regarding a man who believes in what Allah -azwj Revealed unto Muhammad -saww, and whatever He -azwj Revealed from before him -saww, and believes in the Hereafter, and he prays Salat and (gives) Zakat, and he helps the relatives, and he does the righteous deeds, but along with (all of) that, he is saying, \u2018I don\u2019t know the right is for Ali -asws or is it for so and so\u2019?\u2019 \n Ali -asws Bin Al-Husayn -asws said to him: \u2018What are you saying regarding a man who does these good things, all of them, except that he is saying, \u2018I don\u2019t know whether the Prophet is Muhammad -saww or Musaylama (the false claimant of Prophet-hood). Would he benefit with anything from these deeds?\u2019 He said, \u2018No\u2019. \n He -asws said: \u2018Similar to that is this companion of yours. So how can he happen to be a believer in these Books, the one who does not know whether Muhammad -saww is the Prophet or Musaylama, and similar to that, how can he happen to be a believer in these Book and in the Hereafter, or benefit by anything from his deeds, the one who doesn\u2019t know whether Ali -asws is more rightful or so and so?\u2019 \n The Words of the Mighty and Majestic: They are on a Guidance from their Lord, and they shall be successful [2:5]. The Imam -asws said: \u2018Then Allah -azwj Informs about the majesty of the ones with these honourable attributes and Says: They are [2:5], that is the ones with these attributes, on a Guidance from their Lord [2:5]. They obey and act upon the Words of the Lord -azwj and know what they have been Commanded to do, and they shall be successful [2:5] \u2013 the saved from what they had been dreading, the successful with what they had been believing in\u2019. \n The Words of the Mighty and Majestic: Surely those who are disbelieving, it is the same to them, whether you warn them or you do not warn them, they will not be believing [2:6]. The Imam -asws said: When Allah -azwj had Mentioned these Momineen and Praised them, He -azwj Mentioned the disbelievers, the adversaries of their in their disbelief, and He -azwj Said: \u2018 Surely those who are disbelieving [2:6] in Allah -azwj and in what those Momineen have believed in, the Tawheed (Oneness) of Allah -azwj the Exalted, and in the Prophet-hood of Rasool-Allah -saww and in his -asws bequeathing Ali -asws as Guardian of Allah -azwj and a successor -asws of Rasool-Allah \u2011saww, and in the Imams -asws, the clean, the goodly, the best of His -azwj virtuous servants, the ones in charge of the affairs of the creatures of Allah -azwj the Exalted. \n It is the same to them, whether you warn them, scare them, or you do not warn them, or do not scare them, they will not be believing. He -azwj Informed about His -azwj Knowledge regarding them, and they are those whom Allah -azwj Mighty and Majestic had Known that they will not be believing\u2019\u2019. [5] \n Surely those who are disbelieving, it is the same to them, [2:6] \u2013 the Verse. The Imam (Hassan Al-Askari -asws ): \u2018So when Allah -azwj had Mentioned these Momineen and Praised them, He -azwj Mentioned the hypocrites (Kafirs), the adversaries of their in their Kufr, and He -azwj Said: \u2018 Surely those who are disbelieving [2:6] in Allah -azwj and in what those Momineen have believed in, the Tawheed (Oneness) of Allah -azwj, and in the Prophet-hood of Rasool-Allah -saww and in his -asws successor Ali -asws as Guardian of Allah -azwj and a successor -asws of Rasool-Allah -saww, and in the Imams -asws, the clean, the goodly, the best of His -azwj virtuous servants, the ones in charge of the affairs of the creatures of Allah -azwj – \n It is the same to them, whether you warn them, scare them, \u00a0\u00a0 or you do not warn them, or do not scare them, they will not be believing. He -azwj Informed about His -azwj Knowledge regarding them, and they are those whom Allah -azwj Mighty and Majestic had Known that they will not be believing\u2019. \n Muhammad -asws Bin Ali Al-Baqir -asws said: \u2018Rasool-Allah -saww, when he -saww proceeded to Al-Medina and the effects of his -saww truthfulness were apparent, and the signs of his -saww realities, and the clarification of his -saww Prophet-hood, the Jews plotted against him -saww with severe plots, and aimed at him -saww with the ugliest of aims \u2013 in order to obliterate his -saww light and invalidate his -saww arguments. \n So there were from the ones who aimed at him -saww for the responding against him -saww and belying him -saww \u2013 Malik Bin Al-Sayf, and Ka\u2019ab Bin Al-Ashraf, and Huyayy Bin Akhtab, and Judayy Bin Akhtab, and Abu Yasser Bin Akhtab, and Abu Lubaba Bin Abdul Munzir. \n So Malik said to Rasool-Allah -saww, \u2018O Muhammad -saww! Are you -saww claiming that you -saww are a Rasool -saww of Allah -azwj?\u2019 Rasool-Allah -saww said: \u2018Like that is what Allah -azwj Said, the Creator of the creatures in their entirety\u2019. \n He said, \u2018O Muhammad -saww! We will not express belief in you -saww that you -saww are a Rasool -saww of Allah -azwj until this carpet believes in you -saww, which is underneath us,\u2019 \u2013 up to the end of what I (Majlisi) will come within the chapters of his -saww miracles. \n Allah has Set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing [2:7] \u2013 the Verse. He -asws said: \u2018They have such signs set on their hearts that the Angels can recognise when they look at it, they will not believe. And upon their hearing [2:7]. \n And there is a covering over their eyes \u2013 And that they turned away from that which they saw and disbelieved and derogated that which was wanted from them and displayed ignorance in that which was Obligatory for them to believe in, and they became like those on whose eyes there was a covering and they cannot see even what is there in front of them. Surely, Allah -azwj does not like mischief and to compel or force anyone to stay away from prohibitions, He -azwj does not Command them as such nor forcefully stop them as such\u2019. \n Then he -asws said: \u2018 and for them is a grievous Punishment \u2013 meaning, in the Hereafter the punishment for the Kafirs, and in the world as well for the one whom He -azwj Intends to correct and Sends down Punishment on him for his correction so that he will become obedient or for diverting him towards His -azwj Justice and His -azwj Decisions\u2019. [6] \n And if you are in doubt as to that which We Revealed unto Our servant [2:23] \u2013 the Verse. \u2018The Imam (Hassan Al-Askari -asws ) said: ‘So when Allah -azwj Struck the examples for the unbelievers who were outspoken against the Prophet-hood of Muhammad -saww and the Nasibis (Hostile ones) who were hypocritical towards Rasool-Allah -saww, who were against whatever Muhammad -saww said regarding his -saww brother Ali -asws, and against whatever he -saww said on behalf of Allah -azwj Mighty and Majestic and these are the Signs of Muhammad -saww and His -azwj miracles for Muhammad -saww in addition to His -azwj Verses which were clearly for Ali -asws in Mecca and Medina, and it did not increase them in anything except insolence and tyranny. \n Allah -azwj Said to apostates of Mecca and the hardened ones of Al-Medina: And if you are in doubt as to that which We Revealed unto Our servant [2:23]\u00a0 to the extent that you are denying that Muhammad -saww happens to be Rasool-Allah -azwj and that which has been Revealed unto him -saww is My -azwj Speech, and what I -azwj had made Apparent to him -saww in Mecca, the clear Signs (miracles), like the cloud which used to give him -saww shade during his -saww journeys, and the rocks which used to greet upon him -saww, from the mountains and the stones and the trees, and like the dispelled those that tried to kill him -saww, and them being killed instead, and like when the two trees which were separate came to be joined together from which he -saww sat behind them to fulfil his -saww need and then the trees returned back to as they used to be, and like when he -saww beckoned the tree to come to him -saww and it came to him -saww like an obedient and humble, and then ordered it to go back and so it returned upon hearing obediently. \n Then bring O group of Quraysh and the Jews (and O group of Nasibis ) the imposters of Al-Islam, those who are disavowed from it, and O group of Arabs eloquent in your speeches, a Chapter like it like the one brought by Muhammad -saww, a man from among you who did not read or write in any school (being established by people), nor did he disagree with a teacher nor learn from any one, and you know about him -saww in his -saww journeys and in his -saww presence, and he -saww remained like that for forty years. Then he -saww gave you comprehensive knowledge, to the extent he -saww taught the knowledge of the former ones and the latter ones. \n And if you are in doubt [2:23] of these signs, so come the likes of this Speech to clarify that he -saww is untruthful as you are alleging, because whatever was from the presence of other than Allah -azwj, so you would not be (able to find) a match for it among the rest of the creatures of Allah -azwj. \n And if you are a group reciting the Books from the Jews and the Christians, are in doubt from what Muhammad -saww has come with from his -saww Legislation, and his -saww appointing his -saww brother -asws as the chief of the successors -as, as a successor -asws, after having had manifested to you all his -saww miracles from which are \u2013 the speech of the poisoned arm (of the sheep), and the speaking wolf, and the wailing of the trunk while he -saww was upon the Pulpit, and Allah -azwj Repelling the poison from him -saww which the Jews mixed it in his -saww meal, and the affliction overturned upon them and destroyed them with it, and the ampleness of the little food. \n Then bring a Chapter like it – Meaning the like of this Quran, from the Torah and the Evangel and the Psalms and the Parchments of Ibrahim -as and the fourteen Books, for you will not be finding in the rest of the Books of Allah -azwj a Chapter like the Chapters from this Quran. And how can the speech of Muhammad -saww be higher than the rest of the Speech of Allah -azwj in the rest of His Books, O group of Jews and Christians?’. \n Then (Allah -azwj ) Said to these groups: And call on your witnesses from besides Allah \u2013 Call your idols, which you are worshipping, O you Polytheists! And call upon your Satans -la, O you Christians and Jews! And call upon your partners from the apostates, O hypocrites from the Nasibis (Hostile ones) to the Progeny -asws of Muhammad -saww, the goodly, and the rest of your aiders upon your intentions if you were truthful that Muhammad -saww is saying this Quran from his -saww own self Allah -azwj Mighty and Majestic has not Revealed it upon him -saww, and that whatever he -saww is mentioning from the merits of Ali -asws upon the entirety of his -saww community and collaring him -asws with their politics isn\u2019t by the Command of the Wisest of the wise ones! \n Then the Mighty and Majestic Said: But if you do not do it [2:24] \u2013 i.e., if you are not coming, O you faulters of a Proof of the Lord -azwj of the worlds and you will never be doing it, i.e. and this will not be happening from you, ever, then fear the Fire the fuel \u2013 and its firewood – of which are the people and stones, ignited to become a Punishment upon its inhabitants (it is) prepared for the unbelievers, beliers of His -azwj Speech and His -azwj Prophet -saww, the establishers of hostility to His -azwj Guardian, and his -saww successor -asws. \n He -asws said: \u2018So know from your frustrations about that, it is from Allah -azwj the Exalted, and had it been from the creatures, they would have been abled upon opposing it. So when they were frustrated after the scorn and the defiance, Allah -azwj Mighty and Majestic Said Say: If humans and jinn get together in order to be coming with the like of this Quran, they would not (be able to) come with the like of it, even though they were aiders of each other \u2019 [17:88] \u2019\u2019. [7] \n Surely Allah has no Reservations from Striking an example – (that of) a mosquito or what is above it [2:26] \u2013 the Verse. The Imam (Hassan Al-Askari -asws ) said: \u2018Al-Baqir -asws said: ‘When Allah -azwj the Exalted Said: O you people! An example is Struck, and Mentioned the fly in His -azwj Words surely those whom you call upon besides Allah will never be (able to) create a fly [22:73] – the Verse. And when He -azwj Said: The example of those who take guardians besides Allah is as the example of the spider [29:41] \u2013 the Verse. \n And He -azwj Struck two Examples in this Chapter by those who kindled a fire [2:17] \u00a0and rainstorm from the sky [2:19], the unbelievers and the Nasibis (Hostile to Friends of Allah -azwj ) said: \u2018So what are these examples He -azwj is Striking?\u2019. They intended this to be a snide (hurtful) upon Rasool-Allah -saww. \n Allah -azwj Said: ‘O Muhammad -saww! Surely Allah has no Reservations [2:26] – He -saww does not avoid embarrassment from Striking an example so the Truth may be manifested to the Momineen servants (that of) a mosquito i.e., be it an example of a mosquito or what is above it or something bigger and that is of a fly. He -azwj Strikes an example when He -azwj Knows that in it is correction of His -azwj servants and their benefit. \n Then as for those who believe in Allah -azwj and the Wilayah of Muhammad -saww and Ali -asws and their -asws goodly Progeny -asws, and submit to Rasool-Allah -saww and to the Imams -asws, to their -asws orders and their -asws Ahadeeth and their -asws situations and do not confront them -asws in their -asws affairs and do not interfere in their -asws secrets and do not disclose anything given to them in trust from them -asws without their -asws permission. They are knowing those Momineen of these characteristics, that it \u2013 the example being struck is the Truth from their Lord intended to manifest the Truth and explain it, and the uncovering from it and its clarification. \n And as for those who disbelieve in Muhammad -saww by their objections to him -saww regarding Ali -asws, (by questioning) ‘Why?’ and ‘How?’ and yielding to him -saww in the rest of what he -saww ordered with, they are saying: What is it that Allah which Means by this example: He is Straying many by it and Guiding many by it! Those who disbelieved said: ‘Allah -azwj Strays many with these examples and Guides many by it \u2013 i.e., \u2013 So what is the meaning of these examples, for if He -azwj Profits many by Guiding them then many also incur losses due to Him -azwj Causing them to go astray by it (as they deny the Clear Proofs due to their Kufr (disbelief).\u2019 \n Allah -azwj Refuted upon them by Saying to them: And He does not Let Stray by it (any) \u2013 Meaning Allah -azwj does not let Stray with the examples except the transgressors. The two offences upon themselves – by neglecting the contemplation of it, and placing it upon opposite to what Allah -azwj Commanded with placing it upon\u2019\u2019. [8] \n \u2018From Abu Abdullah -asws having said: \u2018Rasool-Allah -saww said: \u2018Allah azwj Resembled for me my saww community in the clay, and Taught me saww their names, all of them, just as had He Taught Adam the names, all of them [2:31]. \n The bearers of the flags passed by and they sought Forgiveness for Ali asws of his asws Shias. My saww Lord azwj Promised me saww a quality regarding Shias of Ali asws \u2019. \n It was said, \u2018O Rasool-Allah saww! And what is it?\u2019 He saww said: \u2018The Forgiveness from them for the ones who believe and fear. Neither a small nor big from them would be left out, and for them the evil deeds would be replaced by the good deeds\u2019\u2019. [9] \n And when it is said to them, \u2018Believe in what Allah Revealed\u2019, [2:91]. The Imam (Hassan Al-Askari -asws ) said: \u2018 And when it is said \u2013 to these Jews, those mentioned previously, \u2018Believe in what Allah Revealed\u2019 \u2013 upon Muhammad -saww from the Quran, inclusive upon the Permissible and the Prohibitions, and the Obligations, and the Ordinances. \n They are saying, \u2018We are believing in what is Revealed upon us\u2019 \u2013 and it is the Torah, and they are disbelieving in what is after it \u2013 meaning, whatever is besides it, they are not believing in it, and it is the Truth \u2013 and which these Jews are saying, \u2018It is after it\u2019, it is the Truth!, because it Abrogates the Abrogated which (Allah -azwj the Exalted) Preceded (with). \n Allah -azwj Exalted Said Say: \u2018So why are you killing \u2013 Why did your ancestors kill the Prophets of Allah from before, if you are believers in the Torah? i.e., There is no Commandment in the Torah with the killing of the Prophets -as. So, when you are killing the Prophets -as, then you are not believing in what Allah -azwj Revealed upon you from the Torah, because therein is a Prohibition of killing the Prophets -as. \n And similar to that, when you are not believing in Muhammad -saww, and in what is Revealed upon him -asws, and it is the Quran \u2013 and therein is the Command with the Eman with \u2013 so you are not believing afterwards, the Torah (as well). \n Rasool-Allah -saww said: \u2018Allah -azwj the Exalted Informed that the one who does not believe in the Quran, so he did not believe in the Torah, because Allah -azwj the Exalted Took upon them (an oath) of the Eman in both these. The Eman is not Accepted in one of the two except with the Eman in the other\u2019\u2019. [10] \n The Words of the Mighty and Majestic: And We have Revealed to you clear Verses and none would disbelieve in these except for the transgressors [2:99]. \n The Imam (Hassan Al-Askari -asws ) said: \u2018Allah -azwj the Exalted Said: And We have Revealed to you, O Muhammad -saww, clear Verses \u2013 evidencing upon your -saww truthfulness regarding your -saww Prophet-hood, clarifying about the Imamate of Ali -asws, your -asws brother, and your -saww successor, and your -saww elite, exposing the Kufr of the one who doubts in you -saww or in your -saww brother, or confront a matter of each one of you -asws by opposite to the acceptance and the submission. \n Then He -azwj Said and none would disbelieve in these \u2013 in these Verses, the evidence upon your -saww merits and the merits of Ali -asws after you -saww over the entirety of the beings, except for the transgressors [2:99] \u2013 the ones exiting from the Religion of Allah -azwj and His -azwj obedience \u2013 from the Jews and the liars, and the Nasibis \u2013 the ones calling themselves as Muslims\u2019\u2019. \n The Imam -asws said: \u2018Ali -asws Bin Al-Husayn -asws Zayn Al-Abideen -asws said: \u2018And that is, that Rasool-Allah -saww, when Abdullah Bin Salam believed in him -saww after having asked questions to Rasool-Allah -saww, and him -saww having answered these, said to him -saww, \u2018O Muhammad -saww! There remain one, and it is the big question and the ultimate purpose \u2013 who is the one who will replace you -saww after you -saww, and fulfil your -saww debts, and accomplish your -saww promises made, and pay back your -saww entrustments, and clarify your -saww Signs and your -saww proofs?\u2019 \n Rasool-Allah -saww said: \u2018Those companions seated (over there), go to them, and the shining light will point you \u2013 a circular spot on (the face of) my -saww Appointed heir (by Allah -azwj ) and the surface of his -asws cheeks, and your scroll would speak that he -asws is the successor -asws, and your body parts would testify with that\u2019. \n Abdullah came to the group \u2013 and he saw Ali -asws with light shining from his -asws face \u2013 bedazzling the light of the sun, and his scroll spoke, and (so did) his body parts, all saying, \u2018O Ibn Salam! This is Ali -asws Bin Abu Talib -asws, the replenisher of the Gardens of Allah -azwj with those that love him -asws, and (replenisher) of His -azwj Fires with his -asws adversaries, the emitter of the Religion of Allah -azwj in the countries of the earth and its horizons, and the negator of the Kufr from its environs and its parts. Therefore, get attached with his -asws Wilayah to become fortunate, and affirm upon the submission to him -asws to become rightly guided\u2019. \n So Abdullah Bin Salam said, \u2018O Rasool-Allah -saww! This is your -saww successor -asws who is Promised in the Torah! I hereby testify that there is no god except Allah -azwj, Alone, there being no associate for Him -azwj. And I testify that Muhammad -saww is His -azwj servant and His -azwj Chosen Rasool -saww, and His -azwj Trustee being Pleased with, and His -azwj Emir upon the entirety of the people. \n And I testify that Ali -asws is his -saww brother -asws, and his -asws elite, and his -saww successor -asws the establisher with his -saww orders, the accomplisher of his -saww promises made, and the returner of his -saww entrustments, and clarifier of his -saww signs and his -saww proofs \u2013 and the repeller of the falsehood with his -asws evidence and his -asws miracles. And I testify that both of you -asws are those whose glad tidings were given by Musa -as and the ones before him -as from the Prophets -as, and they pointed upon you -asws both, the Chosen ones from the elites\u2019. \n Then he said to Rasool-Allah -saww, \u2018The proofs have been completed, and the reasons have been conveyed, and the excuses have been cut off, so there is no excuse (left) for me to be delayed from you -saww, nor is there any goodness in me if I was to neglect the bias towards you -saww \u2019. [11] \n The Words of the Mighty and Majestic: Or is it not so that every time they make an agreement, a group of them discards it? But, most of them are not believing [2:100] \n The Imam -asws said: \u2018Al-Baqir -asws said: \u2018Allah -azwj Mighty and Majestic Said, and He -azwj was Rebuking these Jews, those whose enmity was mentioned previously, and they are the Nasibis who were bearing what agreement had been taken upon them. So He -azwj Said: Or is it not so that every time they make an agreement \u2013 and they are believing that they would happen to be obedient to Muhammad -saww and Ali -asws after him -asws as participants, and they would be patient upon his -asws orders, discards it \u2013 discarding the agreement, a group of them \u2013 and oppose it. \n Allah -azwj Said: But, most of them \u2013 most of these Jews and the Nasibis (hostile ones from among Muslims), are not believing \u2013 i.e., in the future of their ages, they will not be caring, nor repenting with their witnessing the signs and their eye witnessing the evidences (miracles)\u2019\u2019. \n Rasool-Allah -saww said: \u2018Fear Allah -azwj, servants of Allah -azwj, and be steadfast upon what Rasool-Allah -saww orders you with from the Tawheed of Allah -azwj, and from the Eman with the Prophet-hood of Muhammad -saww, Rasool-Allah -saww, and from the belief in the Wilayah of Ali -asws Bin Abu Talib -asws. And you should not be deceived by your Salats, and your Fasts, and your excessive (previous acts of) worship. \n These (acts of worship) will be of no benefit to you if you oppose the Pact and the Covenant. So, the one who fulfils, it would be fulfilled for him, and he would be Graced by the majesty and the merits upon it. And the one who breaks, so rather he breaks it against himself, and Allah -azwj is the Guardian of the Retribution from it, and rather, the deeds are upon their (goodly) endings\u2019. \n This is a bequest of Rasool-Allah -saww to all his -saww companions, and with it, he -saww bequeathed when he -saww went to the cave\u2019\u2019. [12] \n Or are you intending that you would be questioning your Rasool, [2:108] \u2013 the Verse. The Imam (Hassan Al-Askari -asws ) said: \u2018Ali -asws Bin Muhammad -asws Bin Ali -asws Bin Musa Al-Reza -asws said: \u2018 Or are you intending \u2013 But, you are intending, O unbelievers of Quraysh and the Jews, that you would be questioning your Rasool \u2013 what you are suggesting it, from the Verses which you are not knowing whether therein is your correction or your corruption, just as Musa was questioned from before \u2013 and suggested upon him -as for what was said to him -as, We will never believe in you until we see Allah manifestly, so the thunderbolt seized you [2:55]. \n And the one who is (adopting) the Kufr, replacing the Eman with it \u2013 after the answer of the Rasool -saww to him that it is not correct, what he is suggesting to Allah -azwj, and after Allah -azwj the Exalted had Manifested what he had suggested, if he was correct. \n And the one who is (adopting) the Kufr, replacing the Eman with it – that he will not believe during the witnessing was is suggested from the Verses, or he will not believe when he recognises that it isn\u2019t for him that he should suggest, and that it is Obligation that he suffices with what Allah -azwj the Exalted has Established from the evidences, and Clarified from the proofs. \n Thus he is (adopting) the Kufr, replacing the Eman with it, being inimical and not necessitating (upon himself) the proofs established upon him, so he has strayed (from) the right Way [2:108] \u2013 erred it aiming for the road leading to the Gardens, and (instead) took to the road leading to the Fires\u2019\u2019. [13] \n Then Al-Sadiq -asws said: \u2018Three, Allah will not be Speaking to them on the Day of Qiyamah, nor will He be Purifying them, and for them would be a painful Punishment [2:174] \u2013 one who plants a tree Allah -azwj did not Plant, meaning one who nominates an Imam -asws Allah -azwj had not Nominated, or he rejects one whom Allah -azwj had Nominated, and one who claims that for these two (Abu Bakr and Umar) there is a share in Al-Islam, and Allah -azwj has Said: And your Lord Creates whatever He so Desires to and Chooses (whoever He so Desires to). The choosing was not for them. [28:68] \u2019\u2019. [14] \n Al-Baqir -asws and Al-Reza -asws regarding His -azwj Words: for him to warn of a severe Punishment from Him, [18:2] \u2013 The severe Punishment is Ali -asws Bin Abu Talib -asws, and he -asws is from Rasool-Allah -saww, fighting with him -saww against his -saww enemies\u2019. \n And it is reported that it was Revealed regarding him -asws: and the patient ones during the adversity and the desperation and when distressed; they are those who are true, and these, they are the fearing ones [2:177] \u2019\u2019. [15] \n The Imam (Hassan Al-Askari -asws ) said: And when he turns around \u2013 away from you -saww, departing, he runs along in the land to cause mischief therein \u2013 disobeying with the Kufr, the opposite to what he is manifesting to you -saww, and the open injustice to what he promised from himself in your -saww presence, and destroy the farm – by his burning it down or spoiling it, and the lineage \u2013 by his killing the animals, so he cuts off its lineage, and Allah does not love the mischief [2:205] \u2013 not Pleased with it, nor would He -azwj Leave Punishing over it. \n And when it is said to him \u2013 to this one who is astounding you -saww with his words, \u2018Fear Allah\u2019 \u2013 and leave your evil works, pride seizes him with the sin \u2013 the one who is masking (himself), and it increases more evil to his evil, and adds more injustice to his injustice. So Hell would suffice him \u2013 as a Recompense for him upon his evil deeds, and as a Punishment. And it is an evil habitation [2:206] \u2013 he would inhabit it, and he would happen to be forever in it\u2019\u2019. [16] \n \u2018From Abu Abdullah -asws regarding the Words of the Exalted: Ask the Children of Israel how many a clear Sign have We Given them [2:211]. So, from them is one who believe, and from them is one who rejected, and from them is one who accepted, and from them is one who denied\u2019\u2019. [17] \u00a0 \n \u2018I said to Abu Abdullah -asws, \u2018I tend to mingle with the people, and my surprise is a lot from a people who are not befriending you (Imams -asws ), and they are befriending so and so, and so and so (Abu Bakr and Umar). There is trustworthiness for them, and sincerity, and loyalty, while there are a people befriending you (Imams -asws, there isn\u2019t for them that trustworthiness, nor the loyalty nor the sincerity!\u2019 \n He (the narrator) said, \u2018Abu Abdullah -asws sat upright and faced towards me like angry, then said: \u2018There is no religion for the one who makes it a religion with a tyrannous imam (leader) who isn\u2019t from Allah -azwj, and there is no fault upon the one who makes it a religion with the Wilayah of an Imam -asws of justice from Allah -azwj \u2019. \n He (the narrator) said, \u2018I said, \u2018There is no religion for those and there is no fault upon these?\u2019 \n He -asws said: \u2018There is no religion for those nor is there any fault upon these ones\u2019. \n Then he -asws said: \u2018Are you not listening to the Words of Allah -azwj: Allah is the Guardian of those who believe. He Extracts them from the (multitude of) darkness into the Light; [2:257] \u2013 Extracting them from the injustices of the sins to the light of repentance and the Forgiveness due their befriending every just Imam -asws from Allah -azwj. And He -azwj Said: and (as for) those who are committing Kufr, their guardian is the tyrant who extracts them from the Light into the (multitude of) darkness; [2:257] \u2019. \n He (the narrator) said, \u2018I said, \u2018Doesn\u2019t Allah -azwj Mean the Kafirs by it whereby He -azwj Said: and (as for) those who are committing Kufr [2:257] \u2019. \n He (the narrator) said, \u2018He -asws said: \u2018And which light is there for the Kafir, and he is already a Kafir so he would come out from it to the (multitude of the) darkness? \n But rather, Allah -azwj has Meant by this, they were upon the light of Al-Islam. When they befriended every tyrannous imam (leader) who wasn\u2019t from Allah -azwj, due to their having befriended them they came from the light of Al-Islam to the darkness(es) of the Kufr, so the Fire is obligated for them along with the Kafirs, so He -azwj Said: \u2018 these are the inmates of the Fire; they would be in it eternally [2:257] \u2019\u2019. [18] \n It is reported in Tafseer Imam Al-Hassan Al-Askari -asws (11 th Imam): Confirming the causes regarding the Arabs sitting back from Amir Al-Momineen -asws was the matter of wealth, for he -asws did not happen to give preference to any noble over the ordinary (person), nor an Arab over the non-Arab, nor did he -asws deal with the chief and the leaders of the tribes like what is done with the kings and did not incline anyone to himself -asws, and Muawiya was opposite that, so the people left Ali -asws and joined up with Muawiya. \n Ali -asws complained to Al-Ashtar of the abandonment by his -asws companions and fleeing of some of them to Muawiya. Al-Ashtar said, \u2018O Amir Al-Momineen -asws! We fought the people of Al-Basra by the people of Al-Kufa, and the people of Syria by the people of Al-Basra and the people of Al-Kufa and saw the people as one, and they have differed afterwards, and have weakened the intention, and the numbers became few, and you -asws are taking them with the justice and working among them with the truth, and are being fair to the ordinary one from the noble, so there isn\u2019t the preference, the status for the noble one in your -asws presence. \n A party from the ones with you made noise from the truth when they had been generalised with it, and they became saddened from the justice when they came to be in it, and they saw the dealing of Muawiya with the rich people and nobles. So, the souls of the people yearned for the world only a few weren\u2019t for the world, and most of them disliked the truth and bought the falsehood and preferred the world. \n So, if you -asws were to spend the wealth, O Amir Al-Momineen -asws, the necks of men would incline towards you -asws and their advice would be clear they would be sincere of the cordiality Allah -azwj has Made to be for you -asws. O Amir Al-Momineen -asws! And write to your -asws enemies and disperse their groups and weaken their plots and scatter their affairs, He is Aware of what they are doing [11:111] \u2019. \n Ali -asws said: \u2018As for what you mentioned of our -asws knowledge and our -asws ways with the justice, so Allah -azwj Mighty and Majestic is Saying: One who acts righteously, so it is for himself, and one who does evil, so it would be against him, and your Lord is not the least unjust to the servants [41:46], and I -asws am fearful from becoming deficient regarding what you mentioned. \n And as for what you mentioned from the truth being heavy upon them, so they have separated from us -asws due to that. Allah -azwj Knows that they did not separate from us -asws due to tyranny nor did they take refuge to any justice when they separated from us -asws, and they did not seek except for the world declining from them. It is as if they have separated from us and they would be Question on the Day of Qiyamah for the world they had intended, or the work they had done for Allah -azwj? \n And as for what you mentioned of spending the wealth and pretences of the men, so there is no leeway that we -asws should fulfil anyone from the war booty any more than his right, and Allah -azwj the Glorious has Said, and His -azwj Words are the Truth: \u2018How many times a small group has overcome a numerous group by the Permission of Allah, and Allah is with the patient ones [2:249]. \n And Allah -azwj had Sent Muhammad -saww alone, and Made him -saww to be with large numbers after the few, and Strengthened his -saww party after the humility, and Allah -azwj will Return our -asws ruling this command, Humbling for us -asws it\u2019s difficult matters, and Easing for us -asws its sorrow, and I -asws shall accepted from your opinion whatever would be a Pleasure for Allah -azwj Mighty and Majestic, and you are from the trustworthy people in my -asws presence, and their most advising to me -asws, and most reliable regarding myself -asws, if Allah -azwj so Desires\u2019\u2019. [19] \n \u2018From Abu Abdullah Ja\u2019far -asws Bin Muhammad -asws having said: \u2018When the Momin servant does a good deed, Allah -azwj Multiplies his deed, for every good deed, by seven hundred multiple, and that is the Word of Mighty and Majestic: and Allah Multiplies for the one He so desires to; and Allah is Capacious, Knowing [2:261] \u2019\u2019. [20] \n \u2018From Abu Ja\u2019far -asws regarding His -azwj Words: And an example of those who are spending their wealth, seeking the Pleasure of Allah [2:265]. He -asws said: \u2018It was Revealed regarding Ali -asws \u2019\u2019. [21] \n And it is reported in Tafseer of Abu Muhammad Al-Hassan Al-Askari -asws (11 th Imam) \u2018There were four Dirhams for Ali -asws Bin Abu Talib -asws. He -asws did not own other than these. He -asws gave in charity with a Dirham at night, and with a Dirham at daytime, and with a Dirham secretly, and with a Dirham openly. \n That reached the Prophet -saww. He -saww said: \u2018O Ali -asws! What carried you -asws upon what you -asws did?\u2019 Fulfilment of a Promise of Allah -azwj \u2019\u2019. So, Allah -azwj Revealed: Those who are spending their wealth by the night and the day, secretly and openly, [2:274] \u2013 up to the (end of the) Verses\u2019\u2019. These will both come on the Day of Judgement like two clouds or two cloaks or two separate birds in a row and plead on behalf of their readers to the Lord -azwj of the Worlds, the Almighty Lord -azwj, and will both say: ‘O Lord -azwj of the lords!
