[1] The 18 th Sura is named “Kahf” because it speaks about the story of the of the Cave. \n \u2018From Abu Ja\u2019far -asws: Straight, for him to warn of a severe Punishment from Him, [18:2]. He -asws said: \u2018The severe Punishment is Ali -asws, and he -asws is from Rasool-Allah -saww, fighting with him -saww against his -saww enemies. So, that is His -azwj Word: a severe Punishment from Him, [18:2] \u2019\u2019. [2] \n It is narrated from Ja\u2019far -asws Bin Muhammad -asws (6 th Imam) \u2018It was Revealed that he -saww should deliver regarding him -asws, so Rasool-Allah -saww grabbed a hand of Ali -asws and said: \u2018One whose Master I -saww was, so Ali -asws is his Master. O Allah -azwj! Befriend the one befriending him -asws, and be Inimical to one being inimical to him -asws \u2019. \n His -azwj Words: O you Rasool! Deliver what has been Revealed unto you from your Lord; [5:67], in it are five things \u2013 Prestige, and Command, and narration, and restriction, and infallibility. Allah -azwj Commanded His -azwj Prophet -saww that he -saww nominates Ali -asws as an Imam -asws, but there was a pause in (announcing) it due to his -saww disliking the belying of the people. \n It was Revealed: So perhaps you will kill yourself out of grief [18:6] \u2013 the Verse. Rasool-Allah -saww ordered them that they should greet unto Ali -asws with the Emirate (as Amir Al-Momineen). \n Then it was Revealed after some days: O you Rasool! Deliver what has been Revealed unto you from your Lord; [5:67]. \n And there has come in the interpretation of the Words of the Exalted: And He Revealed unto His servant what He Revealed [53:10] on the night of the ascension regarding Ali -asws. When it\u2019s time came, He -azwj Said: \u2018 Deliver what has been Revealed unto you from your Lord; [5:67], and what was Revealed, i.e., deliver what was Revealed to you -saww regarding Ali -asws on the night of the ascension\u2019\u2019. [3] \n \u2018From Abu Abdullah -asws regarding the Words of the Exalted: Or, do you reckon that the of the Cave and the Inscription [18:9]. He -asws said: \u2018They were a people who went missing, and the king of that time inscribed their names, and the names of their fathers, and their families upon a lead parchment\u2019\u2019. [4] \n \u2018From Abu Ja\u2019far -asws regarding His -azwj Words: If you were to be notified upon them, you would turn fleeing from them, and would be filled with awe from them [18:18]. He -asws said: \u2018That does not mean by it the Prophet -saww. But rather, what is meant by it are the Momineen, to each other, but it is their state which they ( of the Cave) are upon\u2019\u2019. [5] \n \u2018From Abu Ja\u2019far -asws having said: \u2018Jibraeel -as descended with this Verse like this: but most of the people refused (to accept) the Wilayah of Ali, except for the denying [17:89] \u2019. \n He -asws said: \u2018And Jibraeel -as descended with this Verse like this: And say: \u2018The Truth is from your Lord regarding the Wilayah of Ali. So the one who so desires to, let him believe, and the one who so desires to, let him disbelieve\u2019. We have Prepared for the ones unjust to the Progeny of Muhammad of their rights, a Fire [18:29] \u2019\u2019. [6] \n \u2018From Abu Al Hassan Musa -asws, from his -asws father -asws regarding Words of the Exalted: And say: \u2018The Truth is from your Lord. \u2013 regarding Wilayah of Ali -asws, So the one who so desires to, let him believe, and the one who so desires to, let him disbelieve\u2019. [18:29]. \n Then he -asws \u00a0said: \u2018It was Said to the Prophet -saww: So proclaim what you are Commanded with [15:94] – regarding the matter of Ali -asws, it is the Truth from your -saww Lord -azwj, So the one who so desires to, let him believe, and the one who so desires to, let him disbelieve [18:29]. Thus Allah -azwj Made the leaving of it (Wilayah) as a sin and Kufr.\u2019 \n He (the narrator) said, \u2018Then he -asws \u00a0recited: We have Prepared for the ones unjust to the Progeny of Muhammad, a Fire which would surround them in enclosures [18:29]. \n Then he -asws \u00a0recited: Surely those who believing and are doing righteous deeds, We will not Waste a Recompense of the one who does good works [18:30], Meaning by them – the Progeny -asws \u00a0of Muhammad -saww \u2019\u2019. [7] \n \u2018From Abu Abdullah -asws regarding Words of Mighty and Majestic: And strike for them an example of two men. [18:32]. He -asws said: \u2018These two are Ali -asws and another man. This is the apparent interpretation, and it is needy to an explanation to the situation of these two men, and explanation of that is that the state of Ali -asws is not needy to any explanation, and as for the discussion about the other man, he is his -asws enemy. \n His -azwj Words: We Made to be for one of them, two gardens of grapes [18:32] \u2013 it is a lesson about the world, so a garden from these is for him during his lifetime and the other for following to him after his death, because he is a Kafir, and the world is a prison of the Momin, and a garden of the Kafir. \n And rather, He -azwj Made the two garden for him because he is the one who grows it and plants their trees, and flows its rivers, and that is upon the way of the metaphor, meaning that the world has been entrusted to him and for his followers for them to be enjoying with it for a while. \n Then the Exalted Said: he said – i.e., owner of the garden – to his companion, – and he -asws is Ali -asws – \u2018I am of more wealth than you \u00a0– i.e., word and authority – and mightier in number (of children) [18:34] \u2013 i.e., clan and supporters – And he entered his garden \u2013 i.e., his world and was in bliss in it, and rejoiced in it, and inclined towards it – while he was unjust to himself. \u2013 By his words and his deeds and did not suffice with that until – He said, \u2018I don\u2019t think that this will perish, ever! [18:35] \u2013 i.e. his garden and his world. \n Then he revealed about his beliefs, so he said – And I don\u2019t think the Hour would be Established, and even if I am returned to my Lord, – just as you all are claiming that there will be a return to Allah -azwj – I will find better than this \u2013 i.e. (better) that his garden \u2013 as an abode [18:36]. \n His companion \u2013 and he -asws is Ali -asws – said to him while agitating him, \u2018Are you committing Kufr with the One Who Created you from dust, then from a seed, then Completed you as a man? [18:37] But as for me, He is Allah, my Lord, – meaning of that is that you disbelieved in your Lord -azwj, so I -asws am the first one to be saying, He -azwj is Allah -azwj, my -asws Lord -azwj, and my -asws Creator, and my -asws Sustainer – and I do not associate anyone with my Lord [18:38]. \n Then he -asws pointed upon what had happened at first if he -asws had said it. So he -asws said: And, if only you had said when you entered your garden, \u2018Whatever Allah so Desires, – happens in the entirety of my -asws affairs, and – there is no Strength except by Allah!\u2019 \u00a0Then he -asws returned the word to himself -asws, so he -asws said to him: Surely, you view that I am lesser than you in wealth and children [18:39] \u2013 i.e. poor, needy to Allah -azwj the Exalted. \n And along with that – So, perhaps my Lord would be Giving me better than your garden \u2013 and your world in the world, by the rising of my -asws son -asws Al-Qaim -asws, a government and a kingdom and authority, and in the Hereafter, a judgment and intercession and Gardens, and Pleasure from Allah -azwj – and would Send upon it \u2013 i.e., your garden – a thunderbolt from the sky, – i.e. a Punishment and fires, so it would be burnt down, or a sword from the swords of Al-Qaim -asws, so it would be obliterated – so it would become a plain \u2013 i.e., a land having no vegetation in it- barren [18:40] \u2013 i.e. the livelihood would be difficult upon it. \n And his fruits were ruined. \u2013 which his garden had produced, meaning his world and his authority was gone – So in the morning he was wringing his hands upon what he had spent in these, \u00a0– from his religion and his world and his Hereafter – and these had collapsed upon its top, and he was saying, \u2018Woe be unto me! Had I not associated anyone with my Lord!\u2019 [18:42] And there did not happen to be a force for him \u2013 nor any clan – to help him, from besides Allah, and he was not supported [18:43] \u2019\u2019. \n Words of the Exalted: Over there, the Wilayah for Allah [18:44] \u2013 and it is reported that it is the Wilayah of Ali -asws \u2019\u2019. [8] \n Tafseer Al Qummi \u2013 \n and We will Gather them, so We will not Leave anyone of them [18:47] \u2013 The Imam -asws Abu Abdullah -asws was asked about His -azwj Words: And on the Day We will Gather batches from every community, [27:83], he -asws said: \u2018What the people saying regarding it?\u2019 I said, \u2018They are saying it is regarding the Qiyamah\u2019. \n Abu Abdullah -asws said: \u2018Will Allah -azwj be Gathering batches from every community and leave the remainder? But rather, that is regarding the Raj\u2019at. As for the Verse of Qiyamah, it is this: and We will Gather them, so We will not Leave anyone of them [18:47] \u2013 up to His -azwj Words: appointment for you all!\u201d [18:48] \u2019\u2019. [9] \n \u2018Abu Ja\u2019far -asws (5 th Imam) was asked about the Words of the Exalted: Over there, the Wilayah for Allah is the Truth. He is the best in Rewarding and best in end-result [18:44]. He -asws said: \u2018It is the Wilayah of Ali -asws. It is the best in Rewarding and best in the end-result, i.e. end-result from the governance of his -asws enemies, owner of the garden which Allah -azwj has Prohibited the Paradise upon it\u2019\u2019. [10] \n (Rasool Allah -saww said) Yes, by Allah -azwj, O Salman -ra! Then Iblees -la and his -la armies will present, and every one of pure Eman purely, and pure Kufr purely, until there is seizure with the retaliation, and the grievances, and the revolutions, and your Lord will not Wrong anyone [18:49]. \n And we -asws are the interpretation of this Verse: And We Intend to Confer upon those who were weakened in the land, and to Make them Imams, and Make them the inheritors [28:5 ] And to Enable for them in the land, and to Show Pharaoh and Haman and their armies what they used to beware from them [28:6] \u2019. \n Salman -ra said, \u2018I -ra stood up from in front of Rasool-Allah -saww, and Salman -ra did not care when he -ra will meet the death or it meets him -ra!\u2019\u2019 [11] See the complete Hadeeth, in Appendix I. \n \u2018From Abu Abdullah -asws, he (the narrator) said, \u2018I asked him -asws about the Words of Allah -azwj the Exalted: And they are asking you about Zulqarnain. Say: \u2018I will recite to you a mention of him [18:83]. \n He -asws said: \u2018Allah -azwj Sent Zulqarnayn to his people, and they struck upon his right horn, and Allah -azwj Caused them to die for five hundred years. Then He -azwj Sent him to them after that, and they struck upon his left horn, so Allah -azwj Caused them to die for five hundred years, then Sent him to them after that. He ruled over the east of the earth and its west, from where the sun emerges to where it sets. \n These are His -azwj Words: Until when he reached west of the sun, and found it setting in a muddy spring [18:86] \u2013 up to His -azwj Words with a terrible Punishment [18:87] \u2013 he -asws said: \u2018In the Fire. So Zulqarnayn built for them a gate of copper and iron, and asphalt and tar, which came to be between them and the exit. \n Then Abu Abdullah -asws said: \u2018There was no man among them who died until there were born for him, from his loins, a thousand sons\u2019. Then he -asws said: \u2018They Yajouj and Majouj (Gog and Magog) were more numerous creatures Created after the Angels\u2019\u2019. [12] \n \u2018I asked Al-Sadiq -asws about His -azwj Words: I shall make a fortified barrier to be between you and them [18:95]. He -asws said: \u2018The Taqiyya \u2019. (He the narrator said), \u2018 So they were neither able to scale it nor were they able to make a hole in it [18:97] \u2019. He -asws said: \u2018They were not able to make a hole in it, when they worked in the Taqiyya, they will not able during that upon a means (against you all), and it is the fortresses of the fortresses, and would come to be between you and between the enemies of Allah -azwj such a barrier, they will not be able to make a hole in it\u2019. \n He (the narrator) said, \u2018And I asked him -asws about His -azwj Words: \u2018 but when the Promise of my Lord comes, He will Make it level [18:97]. He -asws said: \u2018The Taqiyya would be lifted (no longer needed) during the uncovering, so he (Al-Qaim -asws ) would take revenge from the enemies of Allah -azwj \u2019\u2019. [13] \n \u2018From Abu Abdullah -asws having said: \u2018 you will make a barrier to be (built) between us and them?\u2019 [18:94] \u2018 So they were neither able to scale it nor were they able to make a hole in it [18:97] \u2019. He -asws said: \u2018It is the barrier of Taqiyya \u2019\u2019. [14] \n \u2018It was asked Al-Sadiq -asws about His -azwj Words: I shall make a fortified barrier to be between you and them [18:95]. He -asws said: \u2018The Taqiyya \u2019. (He the narrator said), \u2018 So they were neither able to scale it nor were they able to make a hole in it [18:97] \u2019. He -asws said: \u2018They were not able to make a hole in it, when they worked in the Taqiyya, they will not able during that upon a means (against you all), and it is the fortresses of the fortresses, and would come to be between you and between the enemies of Allah -azwj such a barrier, they will not be able to make a hole in it\u2019. \n He (the narrator) said, \u2018And I asked him -asws about His -azwj Words: \u2018 but when the Promise of my Lord comes, He will Make it level [18:97]. He -asws said: \u2018The Taqiyya would be lifted (no longer needed) during the uncovering, so he (Al-Qaim -asws ) would take revenge from the enemies of Allah -azwj \u2019\u2019. [15] \n It was asked from Abu Abdullah -asws about Words of the Exalted: Over there, the Wilayah for Allah is the Truth. [18:44]. He -asws said: \u2018Meaning the Wilayah of Amir Al-Momineen -asws, it is the Wilayah of Allah -azwj \u2019\u2019. [16] In another Hadeeth, Abu Abdullah -asws said, about Words of Allah -azwj: so let him do (the) righteous deed and he should not associate anyone with the worship of his Lord\u2019 [18:110]. He -asws said: \u2018The righteous deed is Recognition of the Imams -asws and he should not associate anyone in the worship of his Lord is the submission to Ali -asws, not associating with him -asws regarding the Caliphate, the one for whom that (Caliphate) is not, nor is he deserving of it\u2019\u2019. He Reveals unto me [18:110] – up to the end of the Chapter (18), except that there would be for him a light from his bed up to the Sacred House of Allah -azwj. So the one for whom there was a light in the Sacred House of Allah -azwj, would be a light for him up to the Bayt Al-Maqdas \u2019. He Reveals unto me. But rather, your God is One God – [18:110] \u2013 up to its end, a light would Emanate for him up to the Sacred Masjid. So Abu Ja\u2019far -asws said: \u2018The severe Punishment \u2013 he -asws is Ali -asws Bin Abu Talib -asws, and he -asws is from Rasool-Allah -saww, and (will) kill his -saww enemies, therefore these are the Words of the Exalted: in order to warn of a severe Punishment from Him [18:2]. Give glad tidings to the Momineen, those who are doing righteous deeds and are believing in you -saww in the People -asws of your -saww Household, with the\u00a0 (glad tidings of) Paradise. For them, with Me -azwj, is an excellent Recompense. And ask him -saww about a group, a group form the west of the sun and its emergence until it reached the dam of Gog and Magog. So if he -saww were to answer us about these, we would know that he -saww is truthful, but if he -saww does not answer us, we would know that he -saww is a liar\u2019. And these ( of the Cave) were a group of Momineen worshipping Allah -azwj Mighty and Majestic, and the king had allocated guards at the door of the city who did not let anyone go out from the city until he had prostrated to the idols. So the head of Al-Husayn -asws hemmed and recited Surah Al-Kahf up to His -azwj Words: they were youths who believed in their Lord and We Increased them in Guidance [18:13]. And I heard as well, him -asws reciting: the of the Cave and the Inscription were of Our wondrous Signs?
