Giving Away Charity if Expecting Calamities محمد بن علي بن الحسين في ( عيون الاخبار ) عن محمد بن القاسم المفسر ، عن أحمد بن الحسن الحسيني ، عن الحسن بن علي العسكري ( عليه السلام ) ، عن آبائه ( عليهم السلام ) ، قال : كان الصادق ( عليه السلام ) في طريق ومعه قوم ومعهم أموال ، وذكر لهم أن بارقة ( 1 ) في الطريق يقطعون على الناس ، فارتعدت فرائصهم ـ إلى أن قال : ـ فقالوا له : كيف نصنع ، دلنا ؟ فقال : اودعوها من يحفظها ويدفع عنها ويربيها ويجعل الواحد منها أعظم من الدنيا بما فيها ، ثم يردها ويوفرها عليكم أحوج ما تكونون إليها ، قالوا : ومن ذلك ؟ قال : ذاك رب العالمين ، قالوا : وكيف نودعه ؟ قال : تتصدقون به على ضعفاء المسلمين ، قالوا : وأنى لنا الضعفاء بحضرتنا هذه ؟ قال : فاعزموا على أن تتصدقوا بثلثها ليدفع الله عن باقيها من تخافون ، قالوا : قد عزمنا ، قال فأنتم في أمان الله فمضوا فظهرت لهم البارقة فخافوا ، ثم ذكر نجاتهم منهم وأنهم مضوا سالمين ، وتصدقوا بالثلث ، وبورك لهم في تجارتهم وربحوا الدرهم عشرة Sheykh Al Sadouq has narrated from Ahmad Hassan Al Husayni who heard from the Holy Imam Hassan Al Askari -asws who from his ancestral chain that one day the Holy Imam Ja’far Al Sadiq -asws was travelling along with some people who had a lot of wealth on them.

When they came to know that there were some highway robbers in the area, they were overcome with trepidation and so they came to the Holy Imam -asws for advice. The Holy Imam -asws said: ‘Leave this wealth in the protection of One Who will take care of it and protect it from the world and what is in it in such a way that He -azwj will return it back to you manifold in a time when you are desperately in need of it’.

The asked: ‘And who is that?’ He -asws said: ‘He -azwj is the Nourisher of the worlds’. They asked: ‘And how do we entrust it to Him -azwj ?’ He -asws answered: ‘Give charity to the poor and helpless Muslims’.

They inquired: ‘And where do we find helpless and poor Muslims over here?’ He -asws said: ‘Make your intention that were you to come across poor and helpless Muslims you will give away a third of your wealth in charity to them so that Allah -azwj may protect you from the looting of the highway robbers whom you fear’. They all said: ‘And so we hereby make this intention’.

The Holy Imam -asws said: ‘And so you are now in God’s safety!’ Then they continued on their travel until such time that they came across the highway robbers and were overcome with fear. But, due to their following of the advice of the Holy Imam -asws they all arrived safely to their destination.
