Ibn Khallikan, in his discussion of the life of al‑Ash'ari, mentions that he was born in 260 or 270/873 or 883 and died at Baghdad in 330/941 or some time after that.[^6] According to Shibli Nu'mani and Ibn `Asakir (the author of Tabyin Kidhb al‑Muftari , on the life and teachings of al‑Ash'ari), he was born in 270/873 and died in 330/941.[^7] He was buried between Karkh and Bab al‑Basrah (the gate of Basrah).
