Shiavault - a Vault of Shia Islamic Books Ghurar Al-Hikam Wa Durar Al-Kalim, Exalted Aphorisms And Pearls Of Speech Evil And The Wicked Evil and the Wicked-الشَّـرّ والأشرار Beware of surrounding yourself with evil, for you will be affected by it yourself before [harming] your enemy and you will destroy your religion by it before conveying it to others. 1ـ إيّاكَ ومُلابَسَةَ الشَّـرِّ، فَإنَّكَ تُنيلُهُ نَفْسَكَ قَبْلَ عَدُوِّكَ، وتُهْلِكُ بِهِ دينَكَ قَبْلَ إيصالِهِ إلى غَيْرِكَ.

The greatest evil is in disparaging the painful advice of the compassionate, sincere adviser and being deceived by the sweetness of the flattery of the malicious praiser. 2ـ أكْبَرُ(أكْثَرُ) الشَّـرِّ فِي الاِسْتِخْفافِ بِمُولِمِ عِظَةِ المُشْفِقِ النَّاصِحِ، وَالاِغْتِرارِ بِحَلاوَةِ ثَناءِ الْمادِحِ الْكاشِحِ. Verily in evil there is impudence. 3ـ إنَّ فِي الشَّـرِّ لَوَقاحَةً. Evil is impudence. 4ـ اَلشَّـرُّ وَقاحَةٌ. Delaying of evil is advantageous to good.

5ـ تَأخيرُ الشَّـرِّ إفادَةُ خَيْر. Evil is [a cause of] regret. 6ـ اَلشَّـرُّ نَدامَةٌ. Evil makes its rider fall. 7ـ اَلشَّـرُّ يَكْبُو بِراكِبِهِ. Evil is the ugliest of gates. 8ـ اَلشَّـرُّ أقْبَحُ الأبْوابِ. Evil is pestilent speech. 9ـ اَلشَّـرُّ مَنْطِقٌ وَبيٌّ. Evil is the symbol of destruction. 10ـ اَلشَّـرُّ (الشَّـرَهُ) عُنْوانُ الْعَطِبَ. Evil is the carrier of misdeeds. 11ـ اَلشَّـرُّ(الشَّرَهُ) حَمّالُ الآثامِ. Evil degrades and strikes down. 12ـ اَلشَّـرُّ يُزْري ويُرْدي.

Evil is punishable and brings dishonour (or is requited). 13ـ اَلشَّـرُّ يُعاقَبُ عَلَيْهِ ويُخْزى (يُجْزى). Considering evil to be loathsome impels one to refrain from it. 14ـ اِسْتِقْباحُ(اِسْتِفْتاحُ) الشَّـرِّ يَحْدُو عَلى تَجَنُّبِهِ. Delaying of evil is a benefit for good. 15ـ تَأْخِيرُ الشَّـرِّ إفادَةُ خَيْر. The consolidation of evil is in being deceived by respite [from chastisement] and reliance on [one’s own] action.

16ـ جِماعُ الشَّـرِّ فِي الاِغْتِرارِ بِالْمَهَلِ، والاِتِّكالِ عَلَى العَمَلِ. The consolidation of evil is in association with a wicked companion. 17ـ جِماعُ الشَّـرِّ في مُقارَنَةِ(مقارَفَة) قَرينِ السُّوءِ. The attractiveness of evil is avarice. 18ـ جَمالُ الشَّـرِّ الطَّمَعُ. The consolidators of evil are obstinacy and increased quarrelsomeness. 19ـ جِماعُ الشَّـرِّ اللَّجاجُ، وكَثْرَةُ الْمُماراةِ. Many an evil may suddenly come upon you from whence you least expect it.

20ـ رُبَّ شَـرّ فاجاكَ مِنْ حَيْثُ لا تَحْتَسِبُهُ. Increased wickedness is [a sign of] vileness and abjectness.
