The doctrinal jurisprudential formulation became perfect and the Prophet did nominate his heir apparent; therefore, he can leave this world with full satisfaction of the affairs of his religion and nation. The mission of the nominated successor, Ali, would be nothing more than continuing the progression originated by the Prophet, following the course he received for twenty three years. The Verse of Perfection was revealed immediately after the ceremony of the nomination.
