“Then We drowned the others.” The reward of Allah for the righteous ones is a course and an Allah’s way of treatment, not a temporary event and an eventual happening. Therefore, in this holy verse the Qur’an clearly says: “Verily thus do We recompense the doers of good.” That is why, when there comes a Divine chastisement in the world, only believers and the righteous ones may be delivered and the others will be punished whether they are disbelievers or inattentive.
