Ali bin Muhammad has narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad, from âAmr ibn âUthman, from Mufaddal ibn Salih from Saâd ibn Tarif from al-Asbagh ibn Nubatah that Ali (as) said: âOnce Jibril came to Adam (as) and said, âI am ordered to offer you three choices. You may choose one and leave the other two.
Adam then asked, âWhat are those three things?â Jibril replied, âThey are intelligence, modesty and religion.â Adam then said, âI choose Intelligence.â Jibril then asked modesty and religion to return and leave Intelligence with Adam. They said to Jibril, âO Jibril, we are commanded to be with Intelligence wherever it may exist. Jibril then said, âIt then is up to you.â He then ascended to the heavens.
