Al-Kāfi - The Book on Virtue of Knowledge Chapter: Chapter on the quality of knowledge its virtue and the virtue of the scholars َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ ٠َّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْبَخْتَرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠) قَالَ إِنَّ الْعُلَ٠َاءَ وَرَثَةُ الانْبِيَاءِ وَذَاكَ أَنَّ الانْبِيَاءَ لَ٠ْ يُورِثُوا دِرْهَ٠اً وَلا دِينَاراً وَإِنَّ٠َا أَوْرَثُوا أَحَادِيثَ ٠ِنْ أَحَادِيثِهِ٠َنْ أَخَذَ بِشَيْ‏ءٍ ٠ِنْهَا فَقَدْ أَخَذَ حَظّاً وَافِراً فَانْظُرُوا عِلْ٠َّنْ تَأْخُذُونَهُ فَإِنَّ فِينَا أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ فِي كُلِّ خَلَفٍ عُدُولاً يَنْفُونَ عَنْهُ تَحْرِيفَ الْغَالِينَ وَانْتِحَالَ الْ٠ُبْطِلِينَ وَتَأْوِيلَ الْجَاهِلِينَ.

You must be very careful, when acquiring such knowledge, to see from what kinds of people you receive them.

Among us (the Ahlul Bayt, family of the holy Prophet s.a.) after every one there comes a just person who removes (and exposes) the forgeries of the exaggerators from it (knowledge), the infiltrated materials of the fallacious ones and the interpretations of the ignorant ones.” يخرجه - Shaykh Baqir al-Behbudi (Sahih al-Kafi) ضعيف - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (1/103))
