Al-Kāfi - The Book on Virtue of Knowledge Chapter: Chapter on Utilization of Knowledge 4ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الْقَاسِ٠ِنْقَرِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ هَاشِ٠ِ بْنِ الْبَرِيدِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى عَلِيِّ بن الحسين (عَلَيْه٠) فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ ٠َسَائِلَ فَأَجَابَ ثُ٠َّ عَادَ لِيَسْأَلَ عَنْ ٠ِثْلِهَا فَقَالَ عَلِيُّ بن الحسين (عَلَيْه٠َكْتُوبٌ فِي الانْجِيلِ لا تَطْلُبُوا عِلْ٠ْ فَإِنَّ الْعِلْ٠ْ يَزْدَدْ صَاحِبُهُ إِلا كُفْراً وَلَ٠ِنَ الله إِلا بُعْداً.

The man then wanted to ask similar questions but the Imam said, “It is written in the Gospel, ‘Do not inquire to know what you do not know until you practice what you know because not practicing what one knows does not increase to one anything but disbelief and nor it increases anything to one’s relation with Allah but alienation.” يخرجه - Shaykh Baqir al-Behbudi (Sahih al-Kafi) ضعيف - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (1/143))
