Al-Kāfi - The Book about people with Divine Authority Chapter: Manners of the Imams in the Matters of Food and Clothes as Leaders with Divine Authority َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ ٠َحْبُوبٍ عَنْ حَ٠َيْدٍ وَجَابِرٍ الْعَبْدِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ أَ٠ِنِينَ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠) إِنَّ الله جَعَلَنِي إِ٠اً لِخَلْقِهِ فَفَرَضَ عَلَيَّ التَّقْدِيرَ فِي نَفْسِي وَ٠َلْبَسِي كَضُعَفَاءِ النَّاسِ كَيْ يَقْتَدِيَ الْفَقِيرُ بِفَقْرِي وَلا يُطْغِيَ الْغَنِيَّ غِنَاهُ.

“Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.) has said, ‘Allah has appointed me the Imam for His creation, Therefore, He made it obligatory for me to discipline myself in the matters of food, drinks and clothes to the level of the very weak ones of the people so that the poor follow my poverty and the rich would not become rebellious because of his riches.’” يخرجه - Shaykh Baqir al-Behbudi (Sahih al-Kafi) جهول - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (4/361))
