Al-Kāfi - The Book about people with Divine Authority Chapter: The Birth of Abu Ja‘far, Muhammad ibn Ali, the Second (a.s.) َّدٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَ٠ِ عَنْ دِعْبِلِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ عَلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠َرَ لَهُ بِشَيْ‏ءٍ فَأَخَذَهُ وَلَ٠َدِ الله قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُ لِ٠َدِ الله قَالَ ثُ٠َّ دَخَلْتُ بَعْدُ عَلَى ابي جعفر (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠َرَ لِي بِشَيْ‏ءٍ فَقُلْتُ الْحَ٠ْدُ لله فَقَالَ لِي تَأَدَّبْتَ.

“Di‘bil ibn Ali once went to see abu al-Hassan al-Rida (a.s.) and he ordered his people to give him a certain gift but he did thank Allah.” The narrator has said that the Imam (a.s.) said to him, “Why did you not thank Allah?” The narrator has said that then I went to see abu Ja‘far (a.s.) and ordered his people to give a gift and I said, “All praise belongs to Allah.” The Imam (a.s.) said, “You just demonstrated your discipline.” يخرجه - Shaykh Baqir al-Behbudi (Sahih al-Kafi) شهور - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (6/105))
