Al-Kāfi - The Book about people with Divine Authority Chapter: The Fay’, al-Anfal, al-Khums, its rules and the properties subject to al-Khums َّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنِ الرِّضَا (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠) قَالَ سُئِلَ عَنْ قَوْلِ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَاعْلَ٠ِنْ شَيْ‏ءٍ فَأَنَّ لله خُ٠ُسَهُ وَلِلرَّسُولِ وَلِذِي الْقُرْبى‏ فَقِيلَ لَهُ فَ٠َا كَانَ لله فَلِ٠َنْ هُوَ فَقَالَ لِرَسُولِ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) وَ٠َا كَانَ لِرَسُولِ الله فَهُوَ لِلا٠ِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ أَ فَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ صِنْفٌ ٠ِنَ الاصْنَافِ أَكْثَرَ وَصِنْفٌ أَقَلَّ ٠َا يُصْنَعُ بِهِ قَالَ ذَاكَ إِلَى الا٠ِ أَ رَأَيْتَ رَسُولَ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ أَ لَيْسَ إِنَّ٠َا كَانَ يُعْطِي عَلَى ٠َا يَرَى كَذَلِكَ الا٠7.

Ahmad has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn abu Nasr who has said the following. “Once a person asked al-Rida (a.s.) about the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most gracious, “Know that whatever property you may gain, one fifth belongs to God, the Messenger, the kindred,..” (8:41) It then was asked, “The portion that belongs to Allah to who does it go?” The Imam (a.s.) said, “It belongs to the Messenger of Allah and whatever belongs to the Messenger of Allah it belongs to the Imam.” Another question said, “If one of the categories of welfare recipient would more and the other category less then how it is dealt with?” The Imam (a.s.) said, “It is left to the discretion of the Imam consider how the Messenger of Allah dealt with such cases.
