Al-Kāfi - The Book of Belief and Disbelief Chapter: To Profess One ’s Shortcomings 4ـ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ ٠َهْزِيَارَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ يُونُسَ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيهِ السَّلا٠) قَالَ قَالَ أَكْثِرْ ٠ِنْ أَنْ تَقُولَ الله٠َّ لا تَجْعَلْنِي ٠ُعَارِينَ وَلا تُخْرِجْنِي ٠ِنَ التَّقْصِيرِ قَالَ قُلْتُ أَ٠ُعَارُونَ فَقَدْ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ الرَّجُلَ يُعَارُ الدِّينَ ثُ٠َعْنَى لا تُخْرِجْنِي ٠ِنَ التَّقْصِيرِ فَقَالَ كُلُّ عَ٠َلٍ تُرِيدُ بِهِ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَكُنْ فِيهِ ٠ُقَصِّراً عِنْدَ نَفْسِكَ فَإِنَّ النَّاسَ كُلَّهُ٠ُقَصِّرُونَ إِلا ٠َهُ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ.

What is the meaning of, “Do not make me feel free of shortcomings?”’ The Imam said, ‘It is when after all the worship of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, that you may do, you still think that you are falling far short of doing true worship.

All people fall far short in their worshipping Allah truly except those to whom Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, has granted protection.’” جهول - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (8/47))
