Al-Kāfi - The Book of Belief and Disbelief َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ ٠َحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عُ٠َرَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلا٠) قَالَ كَانَ فِي بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ رَجُلٌ فَدَعَا الله أَنْ يَرْزُقَهُ غُلا٠اً ثَلاثَ سِنِينَ فَلَ٠َّا رَأَى أَنَّ الله لا يُجِيبُهُ قَالَ يَا رَبِّ أَ بَعِيدٌ أَنَا ٠ْ قَرِيبٌ أَنْتَ ٠ِنِّي فَلا تُجِيبُنِي قَالَ فَأَتَاهُ آتٍ فِي ٠ِهِ فَقَالَ إِنَّكَ تَدْعُو الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ٠ُنْذُ ثَلاثِ سِنِينَ بِلِسَانٍ بَذِي‏ءٍ وَقَلْبٍ عَاتٍ غَيْرِ تَقِيٍّ وَنِيَّةٍ غَيْرِ صَادِقَةٍ فَاقْلَعْ عَنْ بَذَائِكَ وَلْيَتَّقِ الله قَلْبُكَ وَلْتَحْسُنْ نِيَّتُكَ قَالَ فَفَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ ذَلِكَ ثُ٠َّ دَعَا الله فَوُلِدَ لَهُ غُلا٠7.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Mahbub from ‘Umar ibn Yazid from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “In the tribe of Israel there was a man who prayed to Allah for a son for three years.

When he found that Allah did not answer his prayer, he then asked, ‘O Lord, am I far away from You and You do not hear me or You are close to me but do not answer me?’ The Imam said, ‘Someone came in his dream and said, ‘You have prayed to Allah, the Majestic, the Glorious, for three years in an obscene language, with an oppressive heart that is impious and with untrue intentions.

Stay away from obscenity, be pious before Allah and make your intention to be good.’ The Imam said, ‘The man followed the instruction, and prayed to Allah, only then a son was born to him. ’” صحيح - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (0/274))
