Al-Kāfi - The Book of Belief and Disbelief Chapter: Backbiting and Accusations 3ـ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ ٠َّدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ سِرْحَانَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلا٠) عَنِ الْغِيبَةِ قَالَ هُوَ أَنْ تَقُولَ لأخِيكَ فِي دِينِهِ ٠ْ يَفْعَلْ وَتَبُثَّ عَلَيْهِ أَ٠ْراً قَدْ سَتَرَهُ الله عَلَيْهِ لَ٠ْ عَلَيْهِ فِيهِ حَدٌّ.

The Imam said, ‘It is when you say about your brother in belief something about his religion that he has not done, and publicize against him something that Allah has covered up for him and he is not convicted for such crimes.’” عتبر عند ي - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (10/430))
