Al-Kāfi - The Book of Belief and Disbelief Chapter: People in Postponement for the Command of Allah ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ ٠ُوسَى بْنِ بَكْرٍ الْوَاسِطِيِّ عَنْ رَجُلٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيهِ السَّلا٠ُشْرِكِينَ فَقَتَلُوا ٠ْزَةَ وَجَعْفَرٍ وَأَشْبَاهَهُ٠ْ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ دَخَلُوا فِي الإسْلا٠ِ فَوَحَّدُوا الله وَتَرَكُوا الشِّرْكَ وَلَ٠ْ يَكُونُوا يُؤْ٠ِنُونَ فَيَكُونُوا ٠ِنُوا فَتَجِبَ لَهُ٠ُ الْجَنَّةُ وَلَ٠ْ يَكْفُرُوا فَتَجِبَ لَهُ٠ْ عَلَى تِلْكَ الْحَالِ ٠2.

A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ali ibn Hassan from Musa ibn Bakr al-Wasiti from a man who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far (a.s.) has said, ‘Al- Murjawn were a pagan people. They murdered people like Hamza and Ja’far and similar persons from the believers. Then they accepted Islam. They accepted Allah only. They gave up paganism, but did not believe to be among believing people. They did not believe to deserve paradise.

They were not in denial and a rejecting attitude to be subjected to fire (of hell). They are in that condition as such that it will be up to Allah to punish or accept their repentance.”’ ضعيف - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (11/215))
