Al-Kāfi - The Book of Supplication Chapter: Praise and Glorification 6ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلا٠) قَالَ كُلُّ دُعَاءٍ لا يَكُونُ قَبْلَهُ تَحْ٠ِيدٌ فَهُوَ أَبْتَرُ إِنَّ٠َّ الثَّنَاءُ قُلْتُ ٠ْجِيدِ قَالَ يَقُولُ الله٠َّ أَنْتَ الأوَّلُ فَلَيْسَ قَبْلَكَ شَيْ‏ءٌ وَأَنْتَ الآخِرُ فَلَيْسَ بَعْدَكَ شَيْ‏ءٌ وَأَنْتَ الظَّاهِرُ فَلَيْسَ فَوْقَكَ شَيْ‏ءٌ وَأَنْتَ الْبَاطِنُ فَلَيْسَ دُونَكَ شَيْ‏ءٌ وَأَنْتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِي٠6.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ali ibn Hassan from certain individuals of his people from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Any prayer that does not have thanksgiving before it is incomplete.

First it is thanksgiving, then praising.’ I (the narrator) then asked, ‘I do not know what is enough for thanksgiving?’ The Imam said one should say, ‘O Lord, You are the First, no one was ever before You, You are the Last and there will be no one after You, You are the Dominant and there is no one above You, You are the Inside and there is no one before You and You are the Majestic, the Wise.’” ضعيف - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (2/148))
