Al-Kāfi - The Book of Social Manners Chapter: Greeting of Peace and Non-Muslims َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ ٠َّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ غِيَاثِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلا٠ِنِينَ (عَلَيهِ السَّلا٠) لا تَبْدَءُوا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ بِالتَّسْلِي٠ْ فَقُولُوا وَعَلَيْكُ٠2.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Muhammad ibn Yahya from Ghiyath ibn Ibrahim from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) has said, ‘Do not initiate the offering of the greeting of peace to people of the Book, but if they offered just say, “wa ‘Alaykum’” وثق - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (2/546))
