Al-Kāfi - The Book of Marriage Chapter: A Man Wants to Marry one’s Daughter and the Father Intends to Give Her to Another Man َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلا٠) الْجَارِيَةُ يُرِيدُ أَبُوهَا أَنْ يُزَوِّجَهَا ٠ِنْ رَجُلٍ وَيُرِيدُ جَدُّهَا أَنْ يُزَوِّجَهَا ٠ِنْ رَجُلٍ آخَرَ فَقَالَ الْجَدُّ أَوْلَى بِذَلِكَ ٠ُضَارّاً إِنْ لَ٠ْ يَكُنِ الأبُ زَوَّجَهَا قَبْلَهُ وَيَجُوزُ عَلَيْهَا تَزْوِيجُ الأبِ وَالْجَدِّ.

He (the Imam) said, ‘Grandfather is preferred above the father as long as it is not harmful to the girl and that the father has not given her in marriage before the grandfather. Both father and grandfather’s giving her in marriage is permissible.’” وثق - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (0/131))
