Al-Kāfi - The Book of Social Manners 3ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلا٠) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ الله (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِه) إِذَا أَحَبَّ أَحَدُكُ٠َ فَلْيَسْأَلْهُ عَنِ اسْ٠ِ قَبِيلَتِهِ وَعَشِيرَتِهِ فَإِنَّ ٠ِنْ حَقِّهِ الْوَاجِبِ وَصِدْقِ الإخَاءِ أَنْ يَسْأَلَهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ وَإِلا فَإِنَّهَا ٠3.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfali from al-Sakuni from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Whoever loves his Muslim brother should ask what his name, the name of his father, his tribe and family is.

It is of necessary rights and truthful brotherhood (friendship) to ask such questions; otherwise, it is a foolish recognition.’” شهور - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (2/578))
