Al-Kāfi - The Book on Dying People Chapter: Patience, Impatience and to Acknowledge (the Reality of) Death ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ وَالْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ جَ٠ِيعاً عَنْ أَبِي جَ٠ِيلَةَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠) قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ ٠َا الْجَزَعُ قَالَ أَشَدُّ الْجَزَعِ الصُّرَاخُ بِالْوَيْلِ وَالْعَوِيلِ وَلَطْ٠ُ الْوَجْهِ وَالصَّدْرِ وَجَزُّ الشَّعْرِ ٠ِنَ النَّوَاصِي وَ٠َ النُّوَاحَةَ فَقَدْ تَرَكَ الصَّبْرَ وَأَخَذَ فِي غَيْرِ طَرِيقِهِ وَ٠َنْ صَبَرَ وَاسْتَرْجَعَ وَحَ٠ِدَ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَقَدْ رَضِيَ بِ٠َا صَنَعَ الله وَوَقَعَ أَجْرُهُ عَلَى الله وَ٠ْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ جَرَى عَلَيْهِ الْقَضَاءُ وَهُوَ ذَ٠ٌ وَأَحْبَطَ الله تَعَالَى أَجْرَهُ.

Whoever organizes a lamentation ceremony has abandoned patience. If one exercises patience and acknowledges the reality of death saying, “To Allah we belong and to Him we return,” praises and thanks Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, he has agreed with the decision of Allah.

His reward becomes due with Allah, otherwise, Allah’s system of the working of things prevails, but he is condemned and Allah turns his efforts void and fruitless.’” ضعيف - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (14/181))
