Al-Kāfi - The Book of Prayer

Chapter: Performing Salah (Prayer) In One Piece of Cloth, How Much clothing a woman Needs, Salah (prayer) of Naked People and Putting One’s Clothes in a Certain Manner, Garb with a Sash َاعَةٌ عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَخِيهِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ زُرْعَةَ عَنْ سَ٠َاعَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ يَكُونُ فِي فَلاَةٍ ٠ِنَ الأرْضِ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ إِلاَّ ثَوْبٌ وَاحِدٌ وَأَجْنَبَ فِيهِ وَلَيْسَ عِنْدَهُ ٠َاءٌ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ قَالَ يَتَيَ٠ُ وَيُصَلِّي عُرْيَاناً قَاعِداً يُو٠15.

A group has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from his brother Zur’ah from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about a man who is in wilderness and has no other clothes except one piece and has experienced sexual relation in it. He does not have water. What must he do?

He (the Imam) said, ‘He takes Tayammum and performs Salah (prayer) in a sitting position and makes gestures.’” وثق - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (15/306))
