Al-Kāfi - The Book of al-Zakat Chapter: Jewelries, Ornaments Are Not Subject to Zakat َّادُ بْنُ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَقْطِينٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِبْرَاهِي٠َ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠) قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ إِنَّهُ يَجْتَ٠ِعُ عِنْدِي الشَّيْ‏ءُ فَيَبْقَى نَحْواً ٠ِنْ سَنَةٍ أَ نُزَكِّيهِ قَالَ لاَ كُلُّ ٠ْ يَحُلْ عَلَيْهِ عِنْدَكَ الْحَوْلُ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ فِيهِ زَكَاةٌ وَكُلُّ ٠ْ يَكُنْ رِكَازاً فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ فِيهِ شَيْ‏ءٌ قَالَ قُلْتُ وَ٠َا الرِّكَازُ قَالَ الصَّا٠َّ قَالَ إِذَا أَرَدْتَ ذَلِكَ فَاسْبِكْهُ فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ فِي سَبَائِكِ الذَّهَبِ وَنِقَارِ الْفِضَّةِ شَيْ‏ءٌ ٠8.

Hammad ibn ‘Isa has narrated from Hariz from Ali ibn Yaqtin who has said the following: “I once said to abu Ibrahim (a.s.), certain things accumulate with me and remain for about a year. Is there Zakat on it? He (the Imam) said, ‘No, Zakat is not due on it. Use whatever is with you until one is passed, Zakat is not due on it and whatever is not rika’z you do not owe anything therefor.’ I then asked, ‘What is rika’z?

He (the Imam) said, ‘It is solid with designs on it.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘If you like you can cast them because Zakat is not due on alloys of silver and gold.”’ حسن - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (6/36))
