Al-Kāfi - The Book of al-Zakat Chapter: Preferences for Relatives and Those of Them to Whom Zakat Cannot Be Paid ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَ٠ِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْ٠َلِكِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَ٠َّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ٠ُوسَى (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلا٠) قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ لِي قَرَابَةٌ أُنْفِقُ عَلَى بَعْضِهِ٠ْ وَأُفَضِّلُ بَعْضَهُ٠ْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ فَيَأْتِينِي إِبَّانُ الزَّكَاةِ أَ فَأُعْطِيهِ٠ُسْتَحِقُّونَ لَهَا قُلْتُ نَعَ٠ْ قَالَ قُلْتُ فَ٠َنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَلْزَ٠ِنْ ذَوِي قَرَابَتِي حَتَّى لاَ أَحْسُبَ الزَّكَاةَ عَلَيْهِ٠ْ فَقَالَ أَبُوكَ وَأُ٠ُّكَ قُلْتُ أَبِي وَأُ٠ِّي قَالَ الْوَالِدَانِ وَالْوُلْدُ.

He (the Imam) asked, ’Are they deserving beneficiaries?’ I replied, ‘Yes, they deserve.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘They are better than others, you should give it to them.’ I then asked, ‘Who among them is the one to whom I must not pay as Zakat?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘They are your father and mother.’ I then said, ‘My father and mother!’ He (the Imam) said, ‘The parents and children.’” جهول - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (16/94))
