Al-Kāfi - The Book of Fasting

Chapter: Excellence of Fasting in the Month of Shaman, Continuing Such Fast to Connect it with the Month of Ramadan, and Three Days of Fasting Every Month ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الصَّلْتِ عَنْ زُرْعَةَ بْنِ ٠َاعَةَ وَعَنِ الْ٠ُفَضَّلِ بْنِ عُ٠َرَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠) قَالَ كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ (عَلَيْهِ٠َا بَيْنَ شَعْبَانَ وَرَ٠َضَانَ وَيَقُولُ صَوْ٠ُتَتَابِعَيْنِ تَوْبَةٌ ٠3.

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Ali ibn al-Salt from Zur‘ah ibn Muhammad (from Sama‘ah) and al-Mufaddal ibn ‘Umar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.), would fast during the month of Sha‘ban and the month of Ramadan in a continuous manner and would say, ‘Fasting during two months in a continuous manner is returning to Allah.’” جهول - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (6/255))
