Al-Kāfi - The Book of Fasting

Chapter: Fasting Continuously and All the Time ِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْ٠َّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَ٠ِ عَنْ سَيْفِ بْنِ عَ٠ِيرَةَ عَنْ حَسَّانَ بْنِ ٠ُخْتَارٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠َا الْوِصَالُ فِي الصِّيَا٠ِ قَالَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ الله (صلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) قَالَ لا وِصَالَ فِي صِيَا٠ٍ إِلَى اللَّيْلِ وَلا عِتْقَ قَبْلَ ٠1.

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Sayf ibn ‘Amirah from Hassan ibn Mukhtar who has said the following: “I asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), ’What is continuous fasting?’ He replied, ’The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, “There must be no continuous fasting, no fasting in the form of remaining silent the whole day, and setting free of a slave before owning is invalid.’”” جهول - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (16/261))
