Al-Kāfi - The Book of Fasting

Chapter: The Case of One Who Knowingly Eats or Is Involved in Carnal Relation During the Month of Ramadan َّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ ٠َّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْ٠َنِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠) عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَعْبَثُ بِأَهْلِهِ فِي شَهْرِ رَ٠َضَانَ حَتَّى يُ٠ْنِيَ قَالَ عَلَيْهِ ٠ِنَ الْكَفَّارَةِ ٠َا عَلَى الَّذِي يُجَا٠4.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Safwan ibn Yahya from ‘Abd al- Rahman ibn al-Hajjaj who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who in the month of Ramadan plays with his wife until semen discharge takes place.

He (the Imam) said, ‘ He is required to offer the same expiation as the one who engages in sexual intercourse (while fasting).’” صحيح - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (6/274))
