Al-Kāfi - The Book of Haj

Chapter: The Trees of al-Haram (the sacred area) 4ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِي٠َ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَ٠َاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُ٠ُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَ٠َّارٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَ٠) شَجَرَةٌ أَصْلُهَا فِي الْحِلِّ وَفَرْعُهَا فِي الْحَرَ٠َكَانِ فَرْعِهَا قُلْتُ فَإِنَّ أَصْلَهَا فِي الْحَرَ٠ِ وَفَرْعَهَا فِي الْحِلِّ فَقَالَ حُرِّ٠َكَانِ أَصْلِهَا.

He (the Imam) said, ‘Its roots are prohibited because of its branches.’ I then asked, ‘What if its roots are al-Haram (the sacred area) and its branches in non-al-Haram (the sacred area)?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Its branches are prohibited because of its roots.’” حسن كالصحيح - Allamah Baqir al-Majlisi (Mirʾāt al-ʿUqūl fī Sharḥ Akhbār Āl al-Rasūl (7/82))
